Amprolium is a veterinary drug. It is a white water-soluble powder. Applied for the treatment of coccidiosis birds, or rather broiler chickens and maintenance of young. It is forbidden to apply amprolium to young animals older than 16 weeks (before slaughter) and laying hens. The Internet is considering the use of amprolium in coccidiosis of rabbits.

A photo. Amprolium for birds

Active substance

As the main active ingredient (active ingredient) contains the drug amprolium hydrochloride. 1 gram of medicinal powder contains 300 mg of active ingredient. In a percentage of 30% active ingredient, the rest is a filler. Lactose is used as a formative filler. The preparation before giving to a bird is dissolved in water or mixed with food.

Amprolium, especially for rabbits in Russia does not exist, only for birds.

Is it possible to amprolium rabbits

The causative agents of coccidiosis have different species names, both in birds and rabbits, and among themselves:

  • Farm poultry (E. tenella, E. acervulina, E. maxima, E. mivati, E. brunetti).
  • Rabbits (E. stiedai, E. magna, E perforans, E media, E irresidua, E piriformis).

It is believed that the coccidia of chickens do not parasitize in the body of rabbits. This is explained by the different internal environment of the gastrointestinal tract and liver in the compared subjects. Meanwhile, the biochemistry of metabolic processes in all types of coccidia is one. Therefore, the following principle should be considered conditionally correct.

Amprolium, in some cases, may be used for the treatment of coccidiosis of rabbits

Pharmacological action on coccidia

Amprolium in 30% concentration, once inside the body of a rabbit or hens is not absorbed, remains in the intestinal lumen. The penetration of amprolium with the mucous and submucous membrane of the intestine, where some stages of coccidia can occur, is possible. Further, by diffusion enters the unicellular parasite. The active ingredient competes with the parasite's carbohydrates, blocks the synthesis of vitamin B1. Thiamine (vitamin B1) is an essential component of the carbohydrate metabolism of the parasite. As a result, in such a simple way it is possible to suppress the development and reproduction of coccidia. The antidote of amprolium, vitamin B1 in the injection, a dose of 0.5 ml / m, once.

How to prepare medical food based on amprolium

In 800 kg of feed add 0.4 kg of amprolium. Mix thoroughly. For 5-7 days, feed only rabbits with this feed. Other types of feed (hay, succulent feed) remain in the normal form and the rate of feeding. It can be dissolved with water, but in rabbit breeding the dosatrons are practically not used.

Dosatron - a device for dispensing medicinal solutions through a watering system

This dose is indicated for poultry use. For rabbits, the dose can be reduced by 5-10%. Pre-check on a small group of animals.

Manufacturer

In Belarus, produced analogue under the trade name Amprolium 25% BT (Beltekotehnika LLC). It is also not intended for rabbits. However, in comparison with the Russian drug, the spectrum is expanded to the treatment of young cows and sheep. Doses. Young cattle therapeutic dose of 0.04 g / kg 1 time per day for 5 days in a row. Preventive dose is 0.028 g / kg for 21 days. Sheep dose 0,028 g / kg for 5 days. In Russia, other drugs under the brand name Amprolium are unknown.

The drugs are not analogues, but with a similar effect: toltrazuril, torucox, sulfadimethoxin and others.

Compare with combined sulfonamide trisulfone, especially for rabbits.

Drug description

Amprolium is a coccidiostatic, sold in the form of a white powder, which has neither taste nor smell. The active substance in it is amprolium hydrochloride. 1 gram of powder contains 300 mg of substance. It is active against all types of coccidia, parasitic in the body of rabbits.

Attention! In Ukraine, Amprolium 22% is found on sale. The concentration of the active substance in it is 220 mg per 1 g of powder.

The effectiveness of veterinary preparation is due to the fact that the active substance has a chemical structure similar to vitamin B1. Thiamine plays an important role in the life of the parasite, without it they can not exist. Amprolium hydrochloride easily penetrates the cell membranes of coccidia, and then binds the vitamin. As a result, microorganisms die due to a violation of carbohydrate metabolism.

For rabbits, the medicine is not dangerous because it does not penetrate the bloodstream through the intestinal mucosa. Almost 97% of the substance is excreted from animals with feces, and the remaining 3% is excreted in urine.

When apply?

The main purpose of the veterinary preparation Amprolium is the treatment of coccidiosis. This disease affects individuals with low immunity, and therefore pregnant, lactating females and young animals are susceptible to infection. The disease leads to the depletion of rabbits, anemia, accompanied by indigestion. In the absence of therapy, coccidiosis leads to the death of animals.

This drug is also used for other ailments as part of complex therapy:

The drug is intended not only for the treatment of coccidiosis, but also for its prevention. Before use, it is important to study the instructions, since the prophylactic and therapeutic dosages differ.

Rabbit after coccidiosis vaccination

Instructions for use Amprolium

Treatment of rabbits for coccidiosis involves the use of an increased dose of medication. The duration of the therapeutic course is 10 days. The powder is added to drinking water or feed. Before distributing food for each kilogram of food, take 1 gram of bulk material and mix thoroughly. If the decision is made to give the medicine along with the drink, then for therapeutic purposes 1 g of the powder should be dissolved in a liter of water.

Attention! Water with medicine for coccidia should be the only source of drinking for animals until the end of the course of treatment.

For the prevention of Amprolium is used according to the following scheme for 7-10 days:

  • 0.5 g of powder is added per kilogram of feed,
  • 0.5 g of the product is dissolved in 1 liter of water.

Contraindications

In some cases, the use of medicine for coccidiosis is prohibited. Consider what there are contraindications to it:

  1. Age of rabbits. It is impossible to treat with the preparation Amprolium repair youngsters who have not reached the age of 4 months.
  2. Problems with the urinary system and constipation. In this case, the removal of the active substance from the body will be difficult, which can lead to complications.
  3. Do not use Amprolium if rabbits are already receiving treatment with other coccidiostatics.

Reference. Experiments conducted with this drug showed that in the case of an overdose, the animal slows down growth, but there are no other disorders and pathologies.

What other drugs are there for coccidiosis rabbits?

In addition to Amprolium, other drugs are used against coccidiosis. Below is a list of analogues-coccidiostatics:

Eymeterm - an analogue of the drug

  • Eymeterm,
  • Baytril,
  • Tolucox
  • Sinprim.

Eymeterm 5% - coccidiostatic suspension. Active ingredient - toltrazuril. 1 ml of the drug contains 50 mg of the active substance, which quickly blocks the enzymes responsible for the course of metabolic processes in the cells of the simplest microorganisms. Toltrazuril prevents the reproduction of coccidia and causes their death.

Before treatment, you need to correctly calculate the dose of medicine for the rabbit. 0.14 ml of suspension is measured out per 1 kg of animal weight. If the animal is 4 kg, then he is given 0.56 ml of the drug. Eymeterm is administered orally. A single dose is enough to completely rid the rabbit of parasites. In severe cases Eymeterm give twice with an interval of 5 days.

Attention! Rabbits that have been treated with Euimeterm should not be slaughtered earlier than 70 days after ingestion of the suspension, as their meat is not suitable for food.

Baytril is an antibacterial agent that is also effective against coccidia. It comes in the form of a liquid solution in a concentration of 5% and 10%. The first option is used for injections, and the second - for oral administration.

For the treatment of rabbits, the product is diluted in water according to the instructions - 5 ml of the drug is taken for 10 l. The course of treatment lasts 3 days.

Attention! It is allowed to slaughter animals not earlier than 14 days after the last use of the product.

The active ingredient in Tolucox is toltrazuril. Means is issued in the form of suspension. Veterinarians recommend it to animals in which the disease progresses, and other drugs are ineffective.

The scheme for taking Tolucox for rabbits is as follows: 1 ml of the suspension is dissolved in half a liter of water and the drinkers are filled with it. The prepared composition is used for 2 days, after which the treatment is suspended for 5 days. Next, prepare a fresh solution and then water the rabbits for 2 days.

Attention! The slaughter of rabbits treated with Tolupox can be carried out after 8 days.

Zinaprim is represented in vetaptekakh in two forms - in the form of a solution for injection and powder. In its composition it contains 2 components that have a detrimental effect on coccidia:

Each of the components enhances the action of the other. In general, the drug is well tolerated, but if the doses indicated in the instructions are exceeded, it can cause vomiting or diarrhea in rabbits.

Method of application of the solution for rabbits:

  • the dosage is calculated based on the body weight of the animal, - 1 ml of the composition is taken for 10 kg of weight,
  • Zinaprim is administered intramuscularly,
  • on the first day, the agent is administered twice with an interval of 12 hours,
  • in the following days of treatment, make 1 injection in the morning or in the evening,
  • the duration of the course of therapy is determined by the veterinarian.

Zinaprym in the form of a powder is dissolved in drinking water in the proportion of 1 g / 1l. Drink fill the drinker. The next day, prepare a solution with a lower concentration of the drug - 0.5 g / 1 l. Water is filled with water every day. During treatment, pets should not be given clean drinking water, except for the one that contains the medicine. The duration of therapy is from 3 to 5 days.

Coccidiosis causes serious damage to farms, because the infection is spreading rapidly and affects all rabbits. This disease is especially dangerous for young animals. To protect animals from the simplest parasites, use veterinary drugs - Amprolium and its analogues. First you need to carefully study the instructions for use of the drug and consult a veterinarian about the duration of the course of treatment and dosage, so as not to harm the pets.

Coccidiosis in rabbits bycokex treatment

For the treatment of coccidiosis, many authors propose to use sulfa-nilamides, himkokkokd-7, black walnut. However, the main disadvantage of these drugs is too long a period of treatment (5-20 days), which can lead to the death of animals.

The goal of our research is to find an effective and fast-acting drug for the treatment of coccidiosis in dogs, nutria and rabbits.

The work was carried out on the basis of Salsk precinct veterinary clinic and Salsk veterinary and bacteriological laboratory.

The diagnosis was considered established when detecting oocysts with cocyidia in a helminthicoproscopic examination using the Fülleborn or Darling method.

We have tested the drug Baykoks, intended for the treatment of coccidiosis of birds, which was administered to animals with water at the rate of 1 ml per 1 liter for 48 hours. The experiments involved 13 dogs, 1200 nutria, and more than 600 rabbits. According to our data, the effectiveness of treatment is 98.5-100%.

What is Amprolium?

The drug has 4 levels of security and is practically non-toxic. About 97% of the total matter is excreted along with feces, the rest is digested and excreted in the urine. When used in the recommended doses, it does not cause any side effects, since it is practically not absorbed into the intestine, and accordingly into the bloodstream.

A similar effect is characterized by a similar chemical structure with thiamine. Vitamin B1 is an essential component of coccidia life and reproduction. Due to the similarity, the drug penetrates the parasitic cell. Then inside takes the place intended for absorption of vitamins and violates the metabolism in bacteria, as a result of the parasitic infection dies.

For which diseases is amprolium used?

The main efficacy is manifested against coccidian bacteria. Harmful microorganisms are destroyed, while immunity is not suppressed, and the animals recover quickly. The drug is effective against schizogony 1 and 2 generation.

The main diseases with vulnerability to amprolium are:

Coccidiosis is a serious disease that primarily affects the digestive system. The micronutrients from the products are not able to be absorbed. Also accompanied by dehydration, can provoke blood loss. The body’s immunity is severely inhibited, which in turn increases the risk of infection and other serious diseases. In the absence or improper treatment, a lethal event occurs.

To eliminate the disease on the basis of using only the drug is difficult. Other significant factors of treatment are the conditions of detention and feeding. So important factors for recovery are:

  • Moderate temperature
  • Condition and quality of litter,
  • Moisture level
  • Diet,
  • Type of coccidia,
  • The presence of intercurrent diseases.

    Instructions for use of amprolium

Amprolium is great for treating coccidia not only in rabbits, but also in birds or sheep. The drug can be used for prophylactic purposes or direct treatment. The medicine comes in the form of a white powder. It is used in one of several ways: dissolved in water or added to feed.

Dilution of the drug with water

    Favorable rabbit setting

    Preliminary actions before use

    • Separate sick animals from healthy ones. Put them in different cells and put them in a certain distance from each other,
    • All foreign elements in the cage should be removed. In the first place feces, as coccidiosis actively spreads through the feces, from where it enters the air and can infect healthy individuals. Also remove food debris, debris and other undesirable substances.
    • It is better to clean the cell from bacteria using boiling water or a burner,
    • The whole source of water: the tank, bowls and drinkers need to be cleaned, preferably using a disinfectant,
    • Temperature and high humidity further weakens the crawl. Thus, an already weak immunity, is oppressed,
    • When keeping several species of animals in one place, they are best to be separated. Birds and sheep, which are also prone to coccidia, can be especially dangerous.

The use of the drug with water:

  • It is necessary to prepare a water tank that will be sufficient for all rabbits,
  • Add to it a drug of 1 g for treatment per liter,
  • Mix thoroughly the composition,
  • If there is no system for self-supplying water, you must manually pour the mixture,
  • The number of applications per day - it is necessary to regularly replenish the drinkers with water with medication.

Adding the drug to the water

An alternative use is mixing with feed. Hay, roots, cereals, and concentrates are commonly used as food.

  • Take dry food from the calculation on all the rabbits and put in the container,
  • Add amprolium, for every 1 kg use 1 g,
  • It is mixed and distributed to animals.

    Mixing the drug with food

It should be noted that now the treatment for rabbits was being prepared. Separating before the procedure, healthy and sick, you need to take care of both groups. For patients, the treatment described above, and for healthy, only prevention is needed. Thus, the procedure will not differ except for the proportion of the drug, but you will have to knead the food or water separately for both groups. Preventive measure involves the use of 0.5 g of the drug per 1 liter of water or 1 kg of feed.

The advantage of the method is that regardless of age, and usually rabbits get sick for 1.5 - 3 months, the dosage will be determined by the amount of water consumed or the food eaten. Thus, the content of the drug is always normal and only in rare cases, the dose is slightly increased.

All about drugs from coccidiosis rabbits

There are other effective antioxidant drugs, as amprolium is not always possible to quickly find within the village or a small city. A high-quality and worthy replacement can be tulocox, baytril, aymeterm, zinaprim.

Eymeterm is a drug that belongs to a number of antibiotics with a wide range of effects. Well suited for rabbits and many other species of animals, it allows you to destroy coxidia of various morphologies. The effectiveness of the drug causes the blocking of enzymes that perform the function of metabolism. So the bacteria just suffocate, the division process stops and they die.

    Packaging drug Eymeterm

Eymeterm can be used to treat and prevent coccidiosis. Dosage form - suspension. It is used for young age from 4 weeks. The main advantage of the tool is a single use, that is, the treatment course is only 1 day.

To determine the required amount of suspension should know the weight of the animal. The basis of the calculation is the proportion of 0.14 ml per 1 kg of weight. Used orally, it is necessary to wind the automatic dispenser, which for a full pass releases 1 ml of the substance. Overdose can lead to a significant slowdown in growth, and sometimes weight loss.

The drug is quite strong and reacts with the body. This is both an advantage, it is not necessary to repeat the procedure, and a disadvantage, because it is long removed from the body. Lead to the face of a crawl is possible only after 70 days.

The composition and the form of the drug Baytril

Baytril is one of the most common drugs, as it can affect many diseases of the infectious type, and coccidiosis is no exception. The drug is more effective when used by injection, so it enters the bloodstream as quickly as possible.

Baytril promotes healing, as it inhibits the DNA of bacteria and its synthesis. Localizes infection, and limits the growth and reproduction of bacteria. A change in the structure of the cells provokes their early death.

The method of use of the drug is fairly standard, you can use the dilution in water, but the effect slows down a bit, or injection type. For the treatment of rabbits you need to prick the drug in the back of the thigh or ear in an amount corresponding to the mass of the main active ingredient enrofloxacin:

Table 1. Dosage of the drug for injection.

Rabbit diseases - how to treat coccidiosis?

Rabbits of two to three months are most vulnerable to this disease; adults usually are only carriers. Infection with coccidiosis occurs in the simplest way - these are feed, milk, water, which were initially infected with oocytes.

The incubation period lasts no more than three days, and the signs of the disease are:

    • intestinal dysbiosis, which eventually flows into an upset stomach,
    • reduced appetite, which subsequently leads to a sharp weight loss,
    • severe exhaustion (which can be fatal)
    • seizures and various neurotic seizures,
    • yellow of the whites of the eyes.

Treatment, as well as prevention against coccidiosis in rabbits, at home should look like this: elimination of feeding and rabbit deficiencies and all factors that can trigger the appearance of this parasite.

How to water rabbits from coccidiosis? Make it better with iodized water.

This is one of the best ways to prevent disease in young rabbits. Iodine must be diluted in water and given to a pregnant female. You need to start from the 20th day of pregnancy and give 75 ml of 0.02 percent solution, and continue the procedure for 10 days. After a break of three to four days is taken, and the procedure is repeated for another 7 days (the same iodized water should be given to the rabbit for the first 30 days, then the dose can be increased by 1.5 times and continue prophylaxis).

    Preparations for coccidiosis for rabbits

In the treatment of coccidiosis, sulfademitoxin, nerosulfazole, phthalozol, sulfapridazine, detrim, metronedazole and netropharone are the most effective.

Thus, rabbit sulfademitoxin is treated for 10 days (0.3 grams per kilogram of weight).

Nerosulfazole and phthalozol are used simultaneously (0.4 and 0.2 grams, respectively, per kilogram of mass). The course of treatment lasts five days, after which you need to take a break of 5 days and repeat the same procedure again.

Sulfapridazin, detrim, metronedazole and netrofaron have a similar treatment regimen. So, the course should last 7 days and give 20-35 grams daily.

    Amprolium: what kind of drug

Amprolium is a white powder. The drug is intended for the treatment and prevention of infectious and parasitic diseases in animals. Before use, the powder must be added to the feed or dissolved in water in the proportion described in the instructions below.

100 grams of powder contain 30 grams of the active substance - amprolium hydrochloride, which quickly penetrates into the cellular structures of parasites and disrupts their metabolism. This tool has four levels of safety, so it is not toxic to animals and, subject to the recommended doses, does not cause side effects. Up to 97% of the substance is excreted in the faeces, the rest is excreted by the kidneys through urine. The tool is packaged in plastic cans or bags of 0.5 kg, 1 kg and 5 kg.

    What is applied against

In rabbit breeding, Amprolium is used to treat the diseases described below.

The disease affects the digestive system, due to which the absorption of nutrients from the food consumed becomes impossible, provokes blood loss and dehydration of the body. Also, due to coccidosis, the animal’s immunity is greatly reduced, which increases the risk of infection with other infections. With the wrong treatment or lack of it, the animals die.

    Trematodosis

The causative agents of trematodoses are trematodes (flukes). These are flat leaf-shaped helminths with two suckers on the body.

Invasive disease caused by ectoparasites, such as fleas, lice, fly larvae, and lashes, which cause sifunculosis on the body of animals. As a result of their vital activity, the parasites cause itching and peeling of the skin, as well as baldness, anemia, and development and growth.

The disease is caused by cestode larvae that infect the liver of a rabbit, resulting in complications such as peritonitis. The symptoms of this parasitic infection are the sluggish behavior of the animal and the lack of appetite, which leads to a weakening of the body. The death of animals from this disease is quite high.

Parasitic lesion, which is caused by the simplest genus eimeria. The disease has two forms - intestinal and hepatic, contributes to the depletion of the body and the breakdown of the digestive system. Sick rabbits lose weight, are oppressed, their appetite is disturbed, abdominal distention, diarrhea, yellowness of mucous membranes, cramps, dull and ruffled fur are observed.

Because of the pronounced exhaustion, the animals mostly die, and the survivors become carriers of pathogens for 1 month and infect healthy individuals. Coxidia Eimeria-magna under the microscope

    Mixing with feed

An alternative to an aqueous solution of Amprolium is the mixing of the drug with feed. To do this, usually use roots, hay, corn or concentrated feed. Next steps:

    1. Prepare a tank for food of sufficient volume.
    2. Pour dry food into it - as needed for all animals.
    3. Add “Amprolium” to the feed and mix (1 gram of the preparation for 1 kilogram of feed).
    4. Feed the animals.
