Ventilation systems for the chicken coop can be of different types, depending on the principle of operation, design and method of arrangement. The most commonly used are the following:

Supply and exhaust ventilation type is based on the ability of warm air to expand and rise up. At the heart of the design - two plastic or metal pipes that go to the ceiling. The lower ends of the pipes should be located at different levels in height, as shown in Figure 1.

When heated, the air masses rush up and out through the exhaust pipe, and fresh air is drawn through the intake pipe into the resulting area with reduced pressure (in the lower part of the hen house). This design works automatically and around the clock, but there is a danger of running cold air in the winter.

When window ventilation on the opposite walls of the coop have small barred windows that open at the same time to "blow" the space of the coop. Window type allows you to quickly update the air in the room, but requires a favorable wind direction.

Mechanical design involves the installation of electric fans in window and ceiling openings. This method will provide a stable supply of fresh air, but will require the cost of electricity.

Combined ventilation systems will be effective, for example, when electric fans are built into the supply and exhaust design.

Supply and exhaust type

To install this type of ventilation system, the following materials and tools will be needed:

Plastic pipes can be replaced with metal ones only if there is a solid durable roof to which these pipes can be attached.

The procedure for the installation of ventilation of plastic pipes:

  1. Measure the height of the coop's ceiling,
  2. Saw a piece of plastic pipe with a hacksaw so that the upper end of the pipe could protrude 20-30 cm above the roof, and the lower end was at a distance of 20 cm from the floor of the chicken coop (this is a supply pipe),
  3. Saw off another piece of pipe so that its upper and lower ends protrude 20-30 cm on both sides of the roof (this is an exhaust pipe),
  4. Using the drill and drill in the roof, make two holes for the installation of pipes,
  5. Install the pipes into the prepared holes at the required height and attach them to the ceiling with metal corners,
  6. To seal up the gaps in the ceiling between the pipe and the holes with mineral wool, attaching it with a wire to the pipe in a circle,
  7. Pour construction resin on top of the roof pipe entry to prevent water from entering the chicken coop,
