Ficus benjamina - it is an evergreen shrub (or tree) of the Ficus genus and the Mulberry family. Ficus is distinguished by its unpretentiousness and it can be grown at home as a houseplant. It easily reproduces and perfectly decorates the interior of any apartment or office. But, despite its unpretentiousness, the ficus needs proper care. Therefore, many indoor plant lovers have a question: “Why does the Benjamin ficus not grow, and how should one take care of it?”. In order to answer it, you need to understand the possible causes of poor growth of the ficus.

Lack of light

Since the ficus grows mainly in southern latitudes, being at the same time a heat-loving plant, sunlight is simply necessary for its growth. Therefore, if the question arises: “Why does Benjamin's ficus not grow at home?”, Immediately pay attention to the lighting. Sunlight affects the color of the leaves and the condition of the whole plant. Lighting should be good - the ficus likes bright, sunny places. But make sure the summer is on him no direct sunlight. If the leaves of ficus are dark green, this variety is best placed where the light will be scattered.

Temperature mismatch

Given that the ficus is a heat-loving plant, as we have already mentioned, when grown at home, it is necessary to maintain a certain thermal regime. If the temperature is low, the leaves of ficus begin to curl and even fall off.

For normal growth of the described type, the temperature in the room should be within +18 - +30 degreesand as soon as it drops to +15, you need to put the ficus in warmer place(for example, if he was standing on the veranda or balcony, bring him into the house).

Air humidity

If you provided the plant with the right lighting and temperature, and the ficus does not grow anyway, and you no longer know what to do, it is quite possible that it simply lacks humidity.

In order to avoid such a problem, spray the ficus from the sprayer. This will help maintain moisture and maintain plant growth. Another sign of a lack of moisture is the brown color of the leaves.

Wrong watering

Looking for the answer to the question "Why does Ficus Benjamin not grow?", Pay attention to the correctness of watering:

  • Carefully monitor the frequency of watering the plant (it will be more dangerous if you water the plant very often).
  • Avoid stagnant water in the pot.
  • Do not forget about the drainage system during transplantation.

Never water the ficus with water from the tap. It contains a lot of chlorine, as well as lime, which is very harmful for plants, as it provokes a slowdown in their growth. Water for watering ficus should be defended and filtered. Water the ficus as the soil dries. Water should be sufficient to moisten the soil and roots that are at the bottom of the pot.

Nutrient deficiencies or oversupply

If Benjamin Ficus grows poorly, it is worth thinking about the lack of nutrients. With limited fertilizer, the ficus will not only stop growing, but can also shed yellow leaves.

  • For sufficient saturation of the plant with nutrients, fertilize it about once every three weeks.
  • In the summer you can fertilize once every two weeks.
  • Feed for ficus sold in any specialty store.

Use universal or special dressings for ficuses. Also, as a fertilizer, suitable ash, sapropel, bird droppings.

Frequent relocation

The ficus does not like to change places, especially if it is done very often. Therefore, it is highly undesirable to change its usual "territory" where it grows. It is best to put the plant away from drafts and heating batteries, in a dimly lit place, otherwise Benjamin's ficus will grow poorly.

If you notice that the ficus began to drop the leaves - this is the period of adaptation to a new place, you do not need to be afraid, in normal circumstances, the foliage will quickly recover. When changing places, watch the state of the ficus, if it began to turn yellow or the leaves curl up - find a more suitable place.

A ficus is a fragile and fragile plant. With the wrong care for a flower, there is a risk of losing not only its beauty and fragrance, but also the plant itself will stop growing, otherwise it will die. If you think that you are doing everything correctly and properly caring, but you do not grow a flower, then you need to think about why ficus does not grow.

In order to prevent all the dangers for the flower, you need to regularly not only water and take care of it, but also make a quick change (every 1-2 years) to a larger pot, as it grows and becomes brittle over time. If you do not transplant a flower, then over time its development will cease. You should also water the flower in a strict order, for example, in the summer once a day, but do not pour and under-pour, and in the winter every 4-6 days, this will be enough for him. In order for your plant not to stop its development, you should not catch a cold, but rather protect it from cold, drafts or air, otherwise the plant will shed its leaves and not only.

You can make favors for a flower in the form of your own coffee residues, add in small doses with diluted water. At the same time, the ficus will not only liven up, but will also become stronger and free in any conditions.

I have too. I have some violets.

since when does not grow? most likely that he is already in hibernation, in the spring will begin to grow ...

and possibly improper care ...

maybe a big pot - growing root

Probably the pot is too big, and if it loses the leaves, then it is damp and cold-pressed. The situation should be corrected.

Take out your ficus gently from the pot. Look at its root systems (which one is small for a pot or large, but probably small, therefore buy a smaller pot, choose 4cm higher than its root and 3cm wider than its root). check whether there are rotten roots in the roots (they are usually soft and not elastic, maybe you just pour it). At the bottom of the pot must be present to remove (they are needed to release excess moisture and air intake. Put a drain on the bottom of the pot 2cm. Buy the soil, can be universal as well it is possible to pick up especially for ficuses, there are such ones, you just have to search. Old earth, or a torus (if God forbid you should still have it in the purchased land) shake off, try to do it carefully, remove as much as possible, but clean up Bel, too, should not. Here and plant now! The main thing is to adjust the watering! Does not like the gulf, drafts, drying from the radiator! Do not fertilize! Sits in the new earth, until spring it will have enough trace elements from it.

Ficuses grow rapidly, although winter is coming soon, but mine are still letting up leaves. If you have a ficus with small leaves in the form of a tree, then it is a ficus benjamin! if with large leaves, it is more elastic, but I do not claim, there are a lot of them! Would you show the photos, then you would surely help with advice, and analyze for yourself what you did wrong? If the air is dry, spray it from the fanizer, put it in a bright place, find a place near the southern or eastern window, watering only if the top layer is 4 cm dry, although again you need to see your pot.

Successes to you with leaving! Love your ficuses as I love them. Source: two benjamines and one elastic + I want more microcarp and tricolor

If Benjamin ficus (with small leaves) - most likely, the pot is cramped. If the rubber plant ficus (with large leaves) - a large pot, until the roots fill it - then it will start growing. I have such a ficus grows slowly. For the year can give only 4-5 sheets.

Ficus is not growing?

I got it a couple of months ago. I watched one sheet open. The whole process was comparatively fast. Approximately a week and a half of a narrow tube a new leaf appeared. But the next one is “stuck.” A small process 3cm long appeared. And everything seems to me that growth my handsome just stopped. Why? Looks very good and no signs of illness are noticed.

Suspension of growth in plants is quite possible during the period of their adaptation to new growing conditions. Shade a ficus from the bright sun, water and spray regularly, protect from drafts and follow the conditions of ficus care. After adaptation, with proper care, the ficus will grow quickly. In time, form a tree from the plant by trimming the tops, since rubber rubber plant branches very weakly and otherwise it will grow by one shoot up to the ceiling itself.

Ficus Ali: care and reproduction.

The variety of ficuses, the favorite "inhabitants" of houses and offices, is unimaginably large. Different color and shape of leaves, the shape and size of the bush help to create completely different plants in appearance. But they all share a spectacular appearance and unpretentiousness to the conditions of detention, for which they appreciate these plants all over the world.

One of the brightest representatives of this family is Ficus Ali. This truly beautiful plant is an excellent alternative for those who are looking for something unusual for the interior that does not require painstaking care. Long leaves, similar to willow leaves, densely flank the trunk of the ficus, which rushes up and can reach a height of 1.8 m.

Ficus Ali Care

Ficus Ali is considered to be one of the most hardy plants, but, nevertheless, it needs regular care. Hailing from the subtropical forests of India, this species of ficus prefers to avoid direct sunlight and to be in places with diffused sunlight. Northern window sills and places closer to the center of the room may well become an ideal habitat for it. But it is also important not to put it in the depth of the room, otherwise a lack of sunny color will cause the foliage to turn yellow. The air temperature in the room where the ficus Ali dwells should not be lower than 12 ° C and not higher than 25 - 27 ° C, otherwise the leaves will begin to turn yellow and fall down. This type of ficus, like most of its relatives, loves slightly increased air humidity, therefore spraying should be a mandatory procedure for it. Irrigation of foliage has a beneficial effect on the appearance and health of plants. The frequency of spraying is regulated in accordance with the temperature and humidity of the air. If dry warm air reigns in the room or ficus is located on a hot balcony in the summer, spraying is carried out daily, and if the temperature is kept at optimal limits of 20 - 22 ° C, then irrigation can be carried out several times a week. Ficus Ali is poured on a regular basis, avoiding drying out of an earthy coma. The owners of this tropical "guest" need to know that a small break in watering this plant will transfer quite easily, and waterlogging can cause rotting of the roots and, eventually, destroy the ficus. In the period of active growth, which occurs from spring to autumn, the plant needs to be given a little more time. More intensive watering, spraying and fresh air for at least a couple of hours a day will make the plant look incredibly spectacular. During this period, it is also necessary to feed the ficus complex fertilizer for indoor plants. Root top dressings are carried out once in two weeks, foliar, that is, spraying the foliage using a weak fertilizer solution, approximately at the same interval. With the arrival of autumn, Ficus Ali, following the example of most plants, enters a period of rest. At this time, feeding is stopped, and watering is reduced a little, giving the ground the opportunity to dry out a little. The plant suspends its growth and can shed some of the leaves. In most cases, this should not be afraid - with the onset of spring, Ficus Ali will again begin to release new leaves.

Ficus Ali is transplanted in the spring, putting a large layer of pebble or expanded clay into the pot. The substrate is chosen nutritious and loose, so that the plant receives all the necessary elements for development, and the water does not stagnate. The soil can be purchased ready-made, designed specifically for the ficuses, and you can cook it yourself by mixing leafy, soddy soil and some sand. This ficus does not need frequent transplants - once every 2-3 years it will be quite enough. If young ficus develops quickly, then the container is changed more often as the plant grows.

Ficus bindendik hails from the rainforests of Southeast Asia, the length of its distribution from the foothills of the Himalayas, through Nepal, Burma, Thailand, and to Vietnam, Java, Borneo, Sumatra, the Philippines. Received in other parts of the world in countries with a tropical climate, is also popular in the United States, grown on the streets in parks and gardens. It grows everywhere except in the wettest and driest habitats on all major islands, best of all on rocky and rocky open areas.

These are evergreen trees or shrubs that grow in nature about 20 m in height, at home about 1.5 m. It has a strong root system, very aggressive in favorable conditions. The leaves are shiny, dark green about 25-30 cm long and 6-7 wide. As with all ficuses, a sticky white milky sap is released from any part of the plant when it is cut or broken.

Description Vitaly Alenkin (Vitaly): Ficus binnendijkii Miquel - the bark of young shoots is light green. Young shoots quickly woody. On the trunks and side shoots of middle-aged plants, the bark is dark brown, rough, with white strokes, partially exfoliated in the form of small gray pieces (ribbons). In adult plants, the bark is light gray with white strokes.

Young leaves on the tips of the shoots are tubularly twisted, in light green stipules. The latter, after opening the leaf, dry up and fall away. Fully shaped leaves are lanceolate (resembling oleander leaves), slightly concave along the midrib (shaped as “boats”), smooth, hard, glossy with a pointed tip and a triangular base, from 25 to 30 cm long and up to 4-4.5 cm wide. The lamina is dark green above, matte green below, with a pronounced, powerful yellow-green central vein. Petiole 3-4 cm

Ficus binnendik Ali 'Alii'Leaves him much wider than the original type of ficus binnendik, the other characteristics are the same. This variety is more often used than a kind in gardening apartments, offices, winter gardens.

Ficus is home to tropical Asia. This plant has long enjoyed superpopularity. The ficus was especially popular in the 50s – 60s of the previous century, until it was replaced by orchids and other exotic plants that have come down to us. But the ficus managed to hold its position. Now his popularity is beginning to grow again. Ficus leaves have a unique property: they purify the air in the room. This is an important factor in the growing popularity of this plant.

All ficuses love heat and do not tolerate drafts. Therefore, even in winter, indoors, the temperature should not be less than 10 C. But a degree of illumination requires a differentiated approach. Ficus tree like penumbra, direct sunlight is destructive for them.

When growing any ficus should avoid the proximity of heating devices.

Most of the ficuses reproduce stem and leaf-buds cuttings.

Rubber plant is unpretentious and strong 2

Today my story is about the most enduring and unpretentious plant in my house. This is a rubber plant rubber plant. Before, I didn’t really like ficuses, they seemed boring to me. And once a friend told me that she wanted to buy a ficus for herself at home. We went to the store together with her, and I decided to buy for my company as well. My choice fell on rubber plant rubber.

Ficus Ali (Ficus Alii) 1

Personally, I was immediately fascinated by the ficus Ali by the fact that the shape of the leaves resembled bamboo, and then I was very fond of all Chinese, studied Chinese painting using a self-instruction manual, and even painted this notorious bamboo that is present in any Chinese drawing. Then I had to run this ficus, to search: it turned out that he was already out of fashion and.

Benjamin Ficus leaves fall due to lack and excess light

In order for the plant to feel “at home”, it actively shoots, and leaves do not fall from Benjamin's ficus, he needs a long daylight hours, and the lighting should be bright but diffused.

Compared to other related species, the ficus benjamin foliage is thinner and shallow. This means that the scorching rays of the sun can be the possible causes of the disease state of the plant. Leading to evaporation of moisture, dehydration, leaves, and sometimes serious burns, an excess of sun adversely affects the strength and growth of ficus.

Losing the moisture reserve, the leaf plates turn yellow ahead of time, and then fall off.

Exposing the shoots not only worsens the appearance of the plants, but also weakens it. The smaller the leaves on the crown, the slower the photosynthesis, and the ficus receives less energy to grow.

Unfortunately, a similar picture can be observed if the ficus is deficient in the sun. Young shoots become thinner, stretched. Fresh leaves are shallow, and the one that is located on the lower tiers, dries. As a result, leaves fall from the ficus of Benjamin. The plant loses its decorativeness, its strength is depleted, and without proper care it can die.

That is why Benjamin's ficus does not grow if the place for it is chosen incorrectly. Fix the situation quite easily. The main thing is to do it immediately, at the first sign of a green pet's ill health.

Subject to the other rules of care, it is worthwhile to find a place protected from the midday sun, where the flower will be lit from 10 to 14 hours a day, as the ficus comes to life. From autumn to the end of March in the middle lane it is useful for the plant to arrange additional lighting. The same measure will help maintain the beauty of the tree, standing away from the window.

Having taken all measures to improve the situation, of course, it will not be possible to return the former appearance to the ficus. But the growth of full-fledged foliage will resume on new, young stems.

What to do if Benjamin's ficus sheds leaves, despite the correct lighting? No less often the plant suffers for other reasons. These include:

  • moisture deficiency or, on the contrary, regular waterlogging of the soil,
  • drafts,
  • excessive dry air in the room
  • non-compliance with the temperature regime of the content.

Even a sudden change of environment can affect the well-being of a plant. For example, moving from a store to a house becomes a shock for a ficus if the purchase is made during the cold season.

Why leaves fall from ficus: cold, heat and dry air

Why Benjamin's ficus does not grow when it is cold in the apartment? This phenomenon can be explained by the thermophilic guest from the tropics. But flower growers often complain that the formation of new shoots and foliage is markedly slowed down at a temperature comfortable for the culture of 17–23 ° C.

Obviously in this case the plant:

  • turned out to be in too dry air, which often happens when the heating is running,
  • got into the zone of action of cold air from the open transom, air conditioning or balcony.

Not tolerating staying in too dry air, the Ficus benjamina sheds leaves. What to do in this case? Move the pot to where the plant will be more comfortable, and if this is not possible, you can:

  • use a household humidifier,
  • daily irrigate the crown of ficus from a distance of 20-30 cm,
  • hold warm souls and wipe the foliage with a damp cloth.

Leaf loss due to watering errors

It is equally dangerous for Benjamin Ficus to be in completely dry or oversaturated soil:

  1. With excessive watering, especially when kept in cool air, the plant develops root rot. The ficus loses the ability to actively feed, its leaves dry out and begin to crumble.
  2. Dry soil provokes the plant to save moisture, and the ficus gets rid of "extra consumers", that is, foliage. At the same time, the rate of growth of young shoots decreases, raising the legitimate question of gardeners: “Why does the Benjamin ficus not grow?”

In order for the plant to always enjoy bright greens and grow well, the soil under the ficus should dry a couple of centimeters between waterings. The frequency of irrigation depends on the temperature and humidity of the air in the room, the size of the plant and the properties of the substrate.

Benjamin Ficus drops foliage due to lack of power

Benjamin ficus leaves fall off if the plant:

  • is found in a substrate that is poor in organic and mineral substances,
  • they have not been transplanted for a long time, and the roots do not have the opportunity to get as much nutrition and moisture to meet all the needs of an expanded crown.

An immediate measure will be supplementary feeding of ornamental foliage with a liquid complex remedy. And at the first opportunity ficus:

  • subject to pruning, forming a more compact crown and simultaneously removing bare and dead shoots,
  • transplanted into a loose nutrient substrate, after picking up a suitable, larger pot.

The longer the ficus benjamina is in inappropriate conditions, the higher the risk of detection of insect pests on it.

Weakened plants are most often attacked by spider mites, thrips, flaps. When a pet is brought to the garden for the summer, aphids or the larvae of the miner flies can settle in it.

To prevent uninvited guests from stopping the growth of Ficus Benjamin and abscission of foliage, it is useful to regularly inspect the plant and, if necessary, treat it with systemic insecticides and acaricides.

Description of ficus benjamin

In nature, you can often find specimens of Ficus Benjamin, which reach 25 meters in height. A characteristic feature of the plant is dark gray barkwhich is decorated with transverse brown strokes.

Small scapes decorate oblong leaves with a pointed top. Having a smooth glossy shape, the leaves are arranged on the shrub in alternation. They are small in size, reaching a length of 4−12 cm, and a width of 3−6 cm

Most clearly seen in the leaves of the central vein on the background of 8−12 pairs of weakly expressed lateral veins. Root system has invasive formation.

In different ficus Benjamin roots can grow not only vertically, but also horizontally. Indoor specimens are capable of forming a sufficiently developed root system.

Genus ficus Benjamin provides many varietieswhich differ from each other in size, shape, color of leaves, as well as the nature of their adaptability to growing under certain conditions. All these nuances need to be considered when choosing the ficus Benjamin.

In addition to pests, the plant can be affected by pathogenic microbes. We are talking about fungal microorganisms. Most often, the grower "meets" with powdery mildew or black rot.

If you want the ficus to grow big and beautiful, you should properly care for it at home. It is not so difficult, it is only important to know how to do it correctly.

Ficus as a houseplant

Ficus rubber as a houseplant has been cultivated since 1815. This is one of the most unpretentious species. Not so long ago, this ficus could be found in almost every apartment, in schools, in a restaurant, in a dining room, in a cinema. When I was in school, during class duty, it was my duty to wipe the dust from the leaves of ficus. Then he was unfairly considered old-fashioned. In one of the old family photos, I saw a big ficus in a tub that my grandmother grew in the same apartment where I now live.
When I bought a small specimen of rubber plant in the store, this was a rush of nostalgia not even for my own childhood, but for my grandmother's youth.

Ficus rubber has also such names as elastic ficus or elastic ficus. It has large leathery glossy dark green leaves. The plant is shade tolerant, it can be placed away from the window, but the most beautiful specimens are obtained with its free installation in a bright place.

When growing ficus rubber in the room, as soon as the plant reaches a height of 1-1.5 meters, cut off the top of the trunk. Growth up immediately stops, awakening the buds below from the upper cut, from which the lateral shoots grow. After two years, lateral branching is again cut off. These activities contribute to the formation of a beautiful crown. After pruning, a milky sap is released at the cut, which should be stopped with blotting paper.

Once in a clothing store, I saw such a chic ficus standing on the floor in a tub, with a perfectly shaped crown and remarkably beautiful leaves, that involuntarily a doubt arose whether it was real ficus or artificial. Apparently, this feeling appeared in many visitors. Therefore, on the tub hung a sign saying “This is a ficus, He is real. Please don't touch it. ”

My experience of growing ficus

Ficus should be watered only after the earth dries out. Never allow water to stand on a pallet. With proper care, ficus from spring to autumn, approximately every week, develops one new leaf, and the old leaves do not turn yellow or fall. Excessive watering of ficus in the fall and winter causes the leaves to fall, and sometimes the plants die.
The small ficus bought by me first developed very well. New leaves grew powerful, resilient and glossy. But, apparently, during the winter period, I still could not keep the correct irrigation regime, and some of the lower leaves turned yellow and fell off.

In addition, over time, from the very base of the trunk began to grow in the direction of a new branch. The leaves on it grew beautiful, but I did not like the almost horizontal direction of the new branch.

On this new horizontal branch appeared two vertical young processes. And, although they themselves were quite nice, but the general appearance of the whole ficus became awkward. Therefore, I decided to saw off the side branch.

In early March, the branch was sawed off, from the bottom of it I removed three leaves and sawed two pieces of the trunk with young branches.

The rest of the branch I put in a dark vase with water. I also put three sheets in dark glasses with water. I immediately planted two processes with pieces from a branch in plastic jars with earth. After some time, new leaves began to appear on the young shoots, and I realized that these my cuttings had successfully taken root.

Three months later, the sawn off branch gave roots. Two leaves from three also gave roots.

I planted a branch with roots in a pot with soil, and each leaf with roots was also planted in the ground. I knew that a leaf should not grow in any way, since it does not have a growth point.

But since the leaf had roots, I wanted to conduct an experiment, hoping that a new escape might develop from the underground roots. The leaves were in the ground for almost a year and looked good. However, no shoots were ever given. In the end, they turned yellow and died. So the laws of nature could not be defeated.

The branch planted in the ground began to grow like a new tree, straight and level. As a result of my actions in the apartment, two small ficus and two small ficusenes now grow.

I can not say that I really need to have a few ficuses at home. But they are all the result of my experiment, and therefore very dear to me.

Ficus is one of the traditional plants in the homes of our compatriots. The plant is considered a symbol of family happiness. He is handsome, has an exotic appearance, not particularly demanding to care. Growing ficus at home is a long process, but not complicated. Although the ficus home grows for a long time, it looks pleasant throughout its whole life and is pleasing to the eye with lush greens.

Ficus do not require special conditions of detention. They quietly carry both bright light and a slight shade, react normally to large temperature drops. Do ficuses good immunity to most diseases. In general, subject to simple rules, ficuses will delight with their beautiful views.

Watering ficus

Home ficus requires regular watering. Moreover, in the summer to water the flower should be more often - about a day. In the autumn, the ficus is watered less frequently, and in the winter, one irrigation per week is sufficient.

For irrigation, use distilled water at room temperature. Watering time can be defined as follows: when the top layer has dried up 2-3 cm - it's time to water.

Ficus loves spraying water. In dry rooms this is a mandatory procedure. Make sure that no water remains in the pan, otherwise the roots will start to rot.

Since the ficus has rather large leaves, sometimes they need to be cleaned with a soft, damp sponge. And adult plants will transfer well and “bath day”. To do this, put the flower in the bath or basin right in the pot and pour plenty of warm water from the shower. After that, do not rush to put the plant in its former place, wait until the leaves dry out, so that the flower does not overcool. Ficus generally reacts negatively to changes in temperature and is afraid of drafts.

Feeding ficus

Ficus feeding is carried out in the period of active growth - that is, in spring and summer. In autumn and winter, the plant goes into hibernation stage, therefore it does not need additional feeding.

Use natural substances for dressing - nettle decoction, mullein or wood ash. If this is not enough ficus, you can resort to chemical fertilizers. Liquid fertilizers "Gilea" or "Master-color" is best suited. Many growers choose fertilizers in the form of the sticks "Agricola". For the ficus also suitable and "Palma".

Pruning ficus

Pruning a plant is best combined with transplant. In order to form a lush beautiful form of the plant, you need to trim the stretched shoots with scissors. They, by the way, can be used for reproduction.

Trimming homemade ficus do with sharp scissors. You can not "cut" shoots with a knife or break off.

Ficus breeding at home

Ficus propagated by seed or cuttings.

If you decide to plant the seeds, it is best to do it in the spring. Take the small pots prepared in advance (can be disposable), place the ground in there and plant a shallow seed. Then close the container with glass. Remove the glass twice in a knock for about half an hour for watering and airing. When the flower grows to 7 centimeters, it can be transplanted into a large pot.

Planted cuttings in late spring or early summer. Свежий черенок посадите на 5-7 см в грунт и поливайте, как обычно.

Ficus benjamina sheds leaves

Benjamin's ficus is considered evergreen, so when it sheds leaves, flower growers begin to look for reasons why this happens. Flowers when grown at home, begin to behave differently, so it is not always the fall of greenery from the branches is a sign of illness, sometimes it is a natural process.

To determine whether or not to worry if the leaves of a ficus of Benjamin fall, you need to know the possible causes that lead to leaf fall. After all, having identified the problem, it is easier to cure it and restore its former beauty.

Why did the Benjamin Ficus shed the leaves?

If the leaves of ficus fall slightly and only in the lower part of its crown, then this is considered a natural process. Thus, the plant gets rid of old, already obsolete foliage. This process should not cause concern if the fall occurs evenly and the trunk bare barely.

If the leaves of the ficus Benjamin fall heavily, then this indicates his illness or improperly organized care. To identify this, it is necessary to pay attention to their color and general condition.

The main causes of leaf fall in the ficus Benjamin:

  1. Lack of nutrients in the soil. This problem can be identified by reducing the leaf size and fading of their color. Ficus can be saved by transplanting it into a nutrient soil or after feeding. In order not to burn the roots with fertilizer, be sure to pre-wet the substrate in which Benjamin grows.
  2. Wrong watering. Leaf fall can begin as a result of insufficient watering, and with an excess of moisture. In the first case, the leaves dry out before curling, curl, and the twigs become thinner and very brittle. In the second, they are covered with dark spots, the tops die off first, and the smell of rot appears from the pot. Ficus requires moderate watering, the frequency of which depends on the indoor climate.
  3. Disease or pest damage. This ficus is susceptible to infection with thrips, scutes, spider mites, and can also become infected with infectious and fungal diseases. This is most often associated with improperly organized care. When treating it is very important not to overdo it, as the ficus is sensitive to pesticides.
  4. Insufficient or excessive lighting. Even a healthy young plant will begin to shed its leaves if it is in a dark or poorly lit room.

Therefore, in order to avoid this, in the winter period, ficus is recommended to illuminate. Direct sunlight is also disastrous for him, after which, the leaves get burned and die. Stress. Practically all the ficuses very painfully endure moving (especially with long transportation), transplanting and even trimming to form the crown.

Why stopped growing ficus?

Such a reaction may also occur due to a sharp change in temperature (cooling or warming). In order for the ficus to adapt to a new place, sometimes it takes several months, during which he should be closely monitored so that at the first signs of increased leaf fall, take emergency measures (introduce phytohormones or create greenhouse conditions for it).

  • Adverse climatic conditions in the room. Ficus is afraid of drafts, too low and high temperatures in the room where he stands. If a plant is hot, then at first the tips of its leaves turn brown and then fall off completely. If it is cold, then leaf fall occurs without major changes in the color of the leaf plate. Hypothermia can also occur due to watering with cold water or from finding it on a cold windowsill.
