A few decades ago, tomatoes were only round, except for the variety "Cream". Now, thanks to the work of plant breeders, tomatoes delight lovers of vegetables with a variety of varieties. Experienced gardeners know that each variety is different from others not only in taste, shape and color, but also in its cultivation features. Only with proper care culture will please the desired result.

In this article we will take a closer look at the Zhigalo variety.

"Zhigalo" - an interesting variety that affects many oblong shapes and taste. "Gigalo" gives a high yield. It is suitable for salting, good in raw and pickled form.

Seeds of this variety are well germinated. Harvested at the end of the summer if the seedlings were planted in May. The fruits ripen three months after planting, therefore, the variety is considered mid-season. They are quite a lot on the bush, usually 6-7 tomatoes. They have an elongated rectangular shape with a rounded base. In shape and structure inside they resemble Bulgarian pepper.

Tomato color is orange or red. They have a pleasant sweet taste with a hint of sourness, dense pulp weighing up to 150 grams. Plant height reaches no more than 50 centimeters, as it is a standard plant. A small height facilitates the process of care, because the bush does not need to tie up and pinch.

These tomatoes are suitable for transportation over long distances, as they have a dense and thick skin. Fruits can be collected more green and stored until ripening. But when ripe on the bush, the taste will be brighter. If you know all the features of growing a variety, then “Zhigalo” will be able to grow even a gardener novice in his garden. The main characteristic of the variety is its high yield.

Characteristic variety

Given the comparative miniature nature of the plant, it is easy to assume that it does not need to be formed or tied up. In most cases, no more than 5 (sometimes 6) fruits are formed on a single brush of a bush, but this is already a lot.

Differs a tomato "Gigolo" and a good yield, because with one bush you can collect about two kilograms of crop. This is a mid-season variety, which means that about 100 days pass from the emergence of sown seeds to the appearance of ripened fruits.

Advantages and disadvantages

Tomato "Gigolo", which summer residents have learned through the company "Biotechnology", can not be called an ideal culture on your garden, but it still has some advantages compared to other varieties.

For example, these tomatoes are great for preservation in general, with one bush you can simultaneously collect a lot of fruits, and they do not crack and have good resistance to such an unpleasant fitoftorozu.

As for the shortcomings of the described variety, then many people note not so bright taste and dense skin, because of which I want to find other tomato variants for fresh use and preparation of salads.

Tomato "Zhigalo": description of the variety and photos

"Gigalo" is a tomato, intended for eating raw and canning. In addition, it is very convenient to stuff them, because in shape they resemble sausage - elongated with a rounded end, there is not much pulp inside, which makes it easy to place the stuffing in them.

Another advantage of this variety, which was bred by the company Biotechnology, is that its yield is very high. With one bush you can collect fruits 2 times more than with other varieties of tomatoes.

The variety itself is middle-ripening, from the moment of emergence until the fruit ripens, it will take about 99-105 days.

Diseases and pests

Gigolo does not have such immunity to diseases as in hybrids, but rarely affects them.

It is necessary to treat seedlings with fungicides for prophylaxis, and ensure that Colorado beetles do not appear on it. In adult plants, the resistance is higher, there may be a danger of late blight, but if you look and care for the bushes, they will not get sick and die.

Variety description

Zhigalo has become such an extraordinary tomato. Non-standard fruits look like exotic overseas vegetables and have a muted red color.

The taste of tomatoes can be described as sweetish, but not sugar. The shape of the fruit resembles a sausage and weigh modestly - 100-125 g. Therefore, we can say that high yields are provided not by weight, but by the number of ripe tomatoes. On one brush 5-7 pieces are tied (as in the photo).

The ripe fruit does not have dense pulp, it has few seeds and the housewives successfully use it for stuffing. Gigalo refers to mid-ripening varieties of tomatoes, and therefore the first ripe fruits appear not earlier than 98-104 days.

Standard shrubs of tomato varieties Gigalo have a rather compact appearance and grow to a height of 40-46 cm. Gigalo belongs to the determinant varieties of tomatoes. That is, the bush practically does not branch and independently stops growing in height, without the help of the gardener.

Advantages of tomatoes variety Zhigalo:

  • abundant fruiting, with one bush you can harvest two times more than with other varieties of tomatoes,
  • bush almost does not need to be staved,
  • can be grown in greenhouses and in the open field,
  • unpretentious care,
  • saved plot area.

Among the shortcomings of the Zhigalo variety, it is worth noting the susceptibility to diseases of the nightshade. Some gardeners say a higher density of the peel, which is not very pleasant in the use of fresh fruit.

Growing seedlings

  1. For sprouts, seeds are planted in special containers. Fertile soil is better to prepare in advance. An excellent option is to buy a ready-made soil mixture for tomato seedlings at a specialized store.
  2. To further protect the plants from diseases, it is advisable to pre-treat the seeds: it is enough to hold them in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate for twenty minutes. Then they are washed in clean water.
  3. The soil in the box is loosened, moistened. Seeds of Zhigalo spread in specially prepared shallow grooves and sprinkled with earth (approximately half a centimeter layer). The containers are tightly covered with foil and placed in a warm place, with an air temperature not lower than 21˚ C.
  4. As soon as the first shoots appear with leaves, it becomes possible to plant the seedlings in separate cups. In the future, the seedlings before planting in the open ground a little quenched - lower the air temperature by 5-7 ˚ C.

In the greenhouse or open ground, seedlings can be planted as soon as warm weather is established, eliminating unexpected frosts.

Planting seeds in open ground

With this technology of growing tomatoes, seed germination is first carried out. Thus, it is possible to achieve earlier germination of seedlings of tomato varieties Gigalo. To germinate the seeds, they are put into a canvas bag and immersed in warm water for about 12 hours. To keep the seeds cool, the water is periodically changed. Germinated seeds are buried two pieces in the holes dug in a specially prepared area.

Planting seedlings is possible in two ways: linear and chess.

  1. With the linear method, the distance between the bushes in a row is 25-30 cm, and between two rows the distance is 60-70 cm.
  2. With the chess method, the distance in the row between bushes is made 50-55 cm, between the rows - 70-75 cm (as in the photo).

As soon as the seeds germinate and two leaves appear on the seedlings, the seedlings are thinned out - a stronger plant is left in the hole, and a weak sprout is not pulled out, but cut, so as not to damage the neighbor.

Tying tomatoes

Since the Gigalo variety is undersized, there is an opinion that it is not required to tie it up. It is believed that a tomato already in the process of sprout formation forms a strong stem and a developed root system. However, when a large number of fruits ripen, the Zhigalo bush may break / fall under strong gusts of wind. Therefore, it is desirable to provide each bush with support even during the preparation of the beds and holes.

In warm areas, you can do without supports. Shrubs Zhigalo will be laid on the ground, protecting the soil from drying out. It is desirable only to pre-mix the soil.

Watering tomatoes

The variety of tomatoes Gigalo does not need close attention and care. Since the root system of the plant is located close to the ground surface, it is necessary to fear excessive soil moisture. It is worthwhile to navigate through the soil - when it dries, water it.

Soil after watering necessarily loosened to ensure good ventilation.

Top dressing of tomato bushes

3-4 days after thinning the seedlings, it is possible to carry out the first feeding of Gigalo varieties of tomatoes. A suitable fertilizer option is ammonium nitrate solution (15 g per 10 liters of water). Under each bush, it is desirable to pour a liter of solution. After feeding, it is recommended to soil the soil.

As soon as the bushes begin to tie fruit, a second feeding of Gigalo tomatoes is carried out. A mineral mixture is used as a fertilizer (20 g of superphosphate and 10 g of potassium chloride per square meter are used). Fertilizers are buried in moist soil. To do this, along the rows of bushes make shallow grooves (4-6 cm) at a distance of 17-20 cm from the plants.

When fertilizing the soil it is recommended to carefully apply nitrogen fertilizers. Excessive use of them leads to increased growth of the bush and abundant build-up of green mass.

If there are no ready-made mineral fertilizers, then it is quite possible to use organic fertilizers. To prepare the solution of mullein use a bucket of manure and 10 buckets of water. This solution (10-12 days) fertilizes the tomatoes. Moreover, a liter of infusion is still pre-diluted with ten liters of water. Rule feeding: a liter of diluted infusion is poured under each bush.

Stambovy grade Zhigalo does not create problems with staking. Therefore, difficulties with the care of the bush and its formation does not arise.

Features of growing and care

55-60 days before planting in the open ground, seeds are sown in seedling boxes. If the seeds are not processed in the factory, what should be marked on the package, they must be treated for diseases on their own.

Seeds intended for sowing are kept in a disinfectant solution - solution of potassium permanganate, aloe juice, and Fitosporin solution. The disinfected seeds are washed with pure water, they are passed and treated with germination stimulants - HB, Epin, Novosil or a solution of honey.

Grown up seedlings are planted in a permanent place according to the scheme 50 * 40cm when the soil in the garden warms up to 15-18 degrees at a depth of planting seedlings.

The most significant crop is obtained from plants formed by a single shoot, without any side shoots and leaving no more than 5 brushes on a bush. In this case, the fruits will be of the highest quality. Abundant watering and timely introduction of phosphate and potash fertilizers will add yield to plants.

Increase fruit stitchiness by spraying plantings with boric acid solution

1g per 1l of water. Pharmaceutical powder of boric acid is dissolved in a small amount of hot water, and then bring the volume of the solution to the desired concentration.

It is necessary to spray at the beginning of the flowering of the first brush and with the beginning of the ripening of the first fruits. Application of nitrogen fertilizers with the beginning of flowering should be limited.

The seed in the envelope was 20 pieces. Raised through seedlings, planted only three seeds to try. All went up and survived. From the very beginning, the seedlings of this tomato were stocky, plump, with “fat” green leaves. The bushes grew (in the greenhouse) solid, about 50 cm high. The bushes grew as they wanted. Several trunks grew and everything was well fruited. All bushes were hung from top to bottom! The fruits are long, the largest grew 15 cm long and about 4 cm in diameter. The fruits are very fleshy, there are very few seeds, the skin is dense. When transporting is not crumpled. Well kept even without a fridge. Tomatoes taste quite ordinary, they are also tastier, but for salads and tomato preparations there is an excellent adjika, a very thick adjika (the juice does not settle even after grinding by a combine) and beautiful bright red color.
