In almost every garden, you can find such a culture as - onions. Some people grow it to get turnips, for the second more greens are needed. Many new varieties have now appeared, one of them is Exibichen, a medium-late ripening period.

They created it in Holland, its main difference from other varieties is a large onion (each of them can pull up to 0.5 kg on the scales, there are also larger ones). And not only this variety is good - it attracts with a sweet taste and high yield, this is due to the small amount of essential oils in the bulbs. Many people eat it not only as part of salads, but also on their own, like an ordinary apple. This variety has only one minus - the onions are stored for a short time (the shelf life does not exceed four months after harvest), and it is not surprising that only the salad variety.

Gardeners speak well of him, because at least he has a small shelf life, but the variety forms an enviable harvest. The bulbs grow very large, when sown with seeds directly on the bed, the heads grow to 500 grams, and when grown on a seedling method, the bulb can gain a mass of 1 kg.

The heads are rounded oval, yellow with a thin neck.

Growing onion seedlings

It is easy to get onion seedlings, the main thing is to make a little effort and create suitable conditions for the seedlings.

Preseeding preparation

Before sowing, onion seeds must be checked for germination, for this they take 10 seeds, put them in a damp cloth, leave them for 5 days in a warm place. After that, you can determine their quality.

Any onion seeds are hard to pick, due to the high amount of essential oils, for this reason, they need to be prepared before sowing. To do this, take 0.5 tsp. drinking soda and pour it into hot tea leaves (soda will soften the water, and tea infusion will kill germs of disease). Seeds are kept in the solution for an hour, after which, they are kept for another hour in a solution of sodium humate, then dried a little on a napkin, and they are sown.

Care for seedlings of onion exibichen

In this variety of onions, the growing season lasts about 115 days from the time of sowing. To get a good harvest of onions, seeds for seedlings must be planted in March. Sowing is performed in several stages:

1. First, buy quality seeds for planting,

2. If you have purchased seed, it does not need additional processing (seeds are processed by the producer),

3. Own seeds or purchased from another gardener, you must first prepare,

4. Seeds stand 10-15 minutes in a weak solution of salt. Empty and substandard seeds will remain on the surface (they need to be thrown away), and the full ones (suitable for sowing) will sink to the bottom,

5. After sorting, the seed is disinfected in weak potassium permanganate,

6. In the last stage, the seeds are washed in running water, and then dried.

Then chernushka sown in pre-prepared containers. Suitable for this rassadnye plastic containers or wooden boxes.

The soil mixture is prepared using humus, cow dung and garden soil. Soil fall asleep in the disinfected boxes, and sow the seeds. Sowing is made to a depth of 1.5 cm, the boxes after planting are covered with foil. The temperature in the room, you need to maintain at least 20 degrees. Seeds hatch for about a week, then the boxes are set in a bright place.

Seedling diseases

With proper care, the onion is practically free from pests or diseases, but trouble with the seedlings can occur. Seedlings can suffer from onion flies, it can be destroyed with solutions of Zemlin, Fly-eater or Aktar. True, this pest, in small gardens rarely appears.

Sprouts can become ill with powdery mildew or penosporazom - fungal diseases that can be destroyed by spraying plants, Bordeaux liquid, or black leg - a disease that occurs with frequent overmoistening of the soil.

Preparing seedlings for planting

From the second to the third decade of April, when the seedlings will turn 50-60 days, and the plants will form 3-4 leaves, it is time to transplant the seedlings to the garden, if the soil has time to warm up for this period. 12-15 days before transplantation, they start hardening seedlings, they take it out to a sunny place (on the street or on the balcony). The first time is 10-15 minutes, daily increasing the time spent in the open air, until the seedlings are used to it.

Transplanting seedlings on the garden

It is necessary to choose a sunny and open place for onion seedlings, the site should be at a decent distance from trees and shrubs that can close the plants from the rays of the sun. Garden beds, you need to prepare in advance, starting in the fall.

Onion Exhibition: How to Grow Seedling

Sandy soils are best suited for planting in the fall, they apply for 1 m2, 50-60 g of complex fertilizer, 2 liters of wood ash and 2 buckets of humus, or rotted compost.

In the spring, they line the surface of the beds, make rows 30 cm, 4-5 cm deep and water the soil well. Only whole, well-developed seedlings are planted. The leaves are shortened to 1/3 of the length in order to reduce the evaporation of moisture, and the roots are also pruned a little, and they are dipped in a mash mixed with clay and a mullein infusion. Onion seedlings, Exibishen, placed in rows after 20 cm, the roots of seedlings sprinkled with soil, and gently pressed. The next day, the site is watered, and after moisture is absorbed, the bed is mulched.

Let's talk a little about exibishene onions and about its cultivation. For several years I have been cultivating a Dutch variety of onion Exichension on my plot and I am very pleased with it. In Holland, a copy of this variety weighing almost 3 kg was presented at the competition. In Belarus, it is also quite realistic to get an onion weighing 700-800 g.

The harvest begins with the seed

To grow onion seedlings can be in the apartment on the windowsill. Considering that the optimum age of seedlings of onion bulb (from germination to planting in the ground) is 50-60 days, I sow seeds of the variety Exhibishen in the first half of March.

Onion seedlings are compact up to 7-9 weeks of age and perfectly tolerate transplanting to the soil (read about the mechanical elements of the soil), even without an earthy coma. Therefore, I grow seedlings without picking - from sowing to planting in open ground in one tank. Before sowing, seeds are soaked in a solution of growth biostimulant (Epin-extra, Zircon).

The basis for the soil mixture is peat soil, to which I add well-washed (to clean water) river sand or vermiculite in a 4: 1 ratio and dolomite flour at the rate of 1 tbsp. spoon for 1 bucket mix. To give the substrate more moisture capacity I use a hydrogel swollen in water at the rate of 4: 1. The soil from it becomes friable, lumpy, well retains moisture and gradually gives it to plants.

I fill the prepared container with soil mixture, slightly compacting it, especially in the corners. With a wooden plank I make two longitudinal grooves about 1 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep, the distance between them is 4-5.1 cm. I plentifully water the grooves with a solution of Humate or Fitosporin-M and, using a toothpick, evenly position the seeds with a snake less than 0.5 cm, that is, 2-3 seeds per 1 cm row.

Seedling sun loves ...

It grows long and uneven bow. When the first loops of seedlings appear, I sow the sowing capacity on a bright, cool window. Periodically open the bags for airing. When all the seeds sprout, remove the film.

Onion seedlings, like any vegetable, loves the sun. Therefore, containers should be as close as possible to the window frame.

In order to provide the plants with the necessary nutrition area, I thin out the crops. First, I delete late risen, weak, deformed. Then I break through, leaving a distance of at least 1 cm between neighboring plants. Considering the peculiarity of the onion, I first rake out the soil and tear out the entire plant with the root. By the end of cultivation in a liter capacity should be no more than 30-35 plants.

Seedlings regularly loosen, watering with warm, settled water. I spend the first top dressing with full shoots, the next - once in 10-15 days. I use any water-soluble complex mineral fertilizer with microelements (1 tsp without top per 1 liter of water). Learn more about the water resistance of the soil here.

In the stage of three true leaves, the seedlings are pruned with scissors at 1 / 3-1 / 2 of height, so that they do not break. Seedlings immediately become stronger.

I harden the plants, for this, when warm weather sets in, I take them out onto the balcony. At the end of April I put all the seedlings in a film unheated greenhouse.

I plant seedlings in the open ground at the end of the first half of May. Onions do not tolerate close bedding of groundwater, so I plant it on raised beds.

Good predecessors: tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, beets. The bad ones are onions and garlic. I return the onion to its former place only after 3 years.

Onions do not tolerate shading, so the beds are arranged so that it is illuminated by the sun from morning to evening. The soil should be fertile, lightweight. Under the digging on 1 m2 I introduce 1 - 1.5 buckets (10 l) of humus or compost, 2 cups of ash and 2 tbsp. spoons full complex fertilizer (nitrophoska, Kemira wagon or others.). I dig up the soil on the bayonet of a shovel, level it with a rake and water it with Fitosporin-M.

The process of planting seedlings is complex, the plants are very delicate, easily broken, and the roots are cut. Therefore, I prune the leaves of the seedlings, which makes it possible to obtain strong plants with a false stem with a diameter of up to 3-4 cm. To remove the seedlings, I cut the box in the corners, take out an earthy lump, place it in a basin and fill it with water. The earth is soaking, freely choosing seedlings one by one. I prune the roots and greens of the seedlings by half and immediately dip them into a creamy clay humus bowl, where I keep it before landing in the ground.

Prepared plants are planted in a bed in transverse rows with a distance of between 25-35 cm, and between plants - 15 cm. Onions do not like deep planting. Ensuring that the roots are not bent up. Then I spray one of the anti-stress drugs - Epin-extra or Zircon - and pour water under the root with Humate solution for quick rooting, mulching rows with peat (peaty-bog soils). Usually the plants take root within a week.

When the onions take root, and the leaves begin to grow actively, I spend the first feeding with ammonium nitrate (1 tbsp per 10 liters of water). Then I feed them in the phase of 4-5 true leaves and at the beginning of the formation of the bulb (when its diameter is twice the diameter of the false stem), using soluble complex fertilizer (Kemira combi or Lux - I grow 1 tbsp spoonful with top 10 liters of water). In order not to attract onion fly, mullein and litter in the dressings do not apply.

I water the onions 1-2 times a week abundantly (10 liters per 1 m2) until July 12 (Petrov's day) taking into account the weather. In the second half of the day I spend all watering and dressing on the row spacing with a watering can without a sieve, trying not to wet the leaves, so as not to provoke the onion disease with powdery mildew. After each watering, rain or liquid feeding, shallow loosening (4-5 cm) is necessary, but it is impossible even to slightly pile up the plants, this can delay the ripening of the bulbs. At the same time, we plant the weeds so that weeds do not shade the onion plants.

To get a large bulb, you should never pluck a feather. For the quick ripening of the bulbs from the middle of July, I stop watering and feeding.

Onion Exhibition - variety description

The majority of the population of our country has at least a modest suburban area on which organic products sprout and Exhibichen onions are not an exception. This species hails from Holland, where it is beloved by everyone, and has spread throughout the expanses of our country. Notable for this variety is the size, reaching from 120 to 600 grams, sometimes 800 grams. On this basis, it should be recognized that a foreign variety can bring a generous harvest and will be worth the effort.

Of course, size is important, but the quality of the bow is more important. This species is not in vain fond of overseas consumers and, fortunately, migrated to us. This variety is popularly called "salad", for the simple reason that its sweetness is in perfect harmony with other ingredients in the salad and leaves no aftertaste.

The seeds of the onion Exhibition can be bought on the Internet, as well as in garden stores at an affordable price. Onions of this variety deserve their popularity, although it has small minuses.

For example, the Exhibition is able to maintain its integrity unchanged for up to 5 months, and is also afraid of the cold.

Like other vegetables, onions can be grown seedling and seed. Of course, the choice depends only on the preferences of the landowner himself. The reason why growing onions from seeds is better than seedlings is the difference in the amount of labor during cultivation. Seedlings require much more trouble, but still this method is cheaper and makes it possible to get good strong bulbs in the Urals and in Siberia.

Properly created growing conditions for onion eksibishen are the fundamental moment of a generous harvest. Of the two existing methods of cultivation is proposed to consider the seed.

Seed cultivation method

As a rule, full-fledged and tasty bulbs grow from the seeds of onion EXIBISHEN, but first you need to first prepare both the soil and the seeds themselves, which is recommended in March. Sowing itself should be done closer to warming (most often it falls on April). But when sowing seeds of Onionfish in open ground, consider regional affiliation so as not to freeze plantings, because in the North-Western region, in the Urals and in Siberia, snow may still lie in April, and it is almost summer in the Kuban.

It is strongly recommended to carry out the following procedure: the available seeds should be glued to a paper tape using boiled starch (100 ml of water / 1 tbsp of starch). In order to do everything neatly, you need to drop it onto the paper with our “glue” with the help of a toothpick and put the seed on the wet formations. Upon completion, wrap the dried paper tape and put it in a plastic bag.

Next, you need the presence of disinfecting solutions, which will be carried out tillage. You will also need to make long grooves in the beds at a distance of 30-35 cm, and then carefully place paper tapes into them seed up and easily sprinkle with earth.

Onion Exhibition - Cultivation through seedlings

Growing seedlings of variety Exichen is a separate procedure that can bring great benefits, but this will require strict adherence to the rules of care and cultivation. First and foremost, the onion Exhibicin, cultivation and care, for which it is directly related to the end result, requires, under the seedling method, to maintain an optimum level of climatic conditions.

To know how to grow large onions in their own area, you need to know a few secrets and tricks. Seeds for planting are recommended to be prepared in March. Before you start sowing, you should lower the chernushka for a couple of hours in water. Next, small seeds need to be wrapped in a wet cloth and keep in this state for 2-3 days. After the specified time, sterilization should be carried out. Preparing a solution of 1 g of potassium permanganate and 1 l of water. Prepared seeds should be dipped in the prepared solution for 8 hours, maintaining heat at about 40 ° C.

While the seeds are sterilized, it is recommended to prepare the soil by mixing ancient ground, humus, a little coarse sand, and then fill the boxes with the prepared mixture and moisten. Upon completion of the preparatory procedures, the seed is placed in the soil at a depth of 1.5 cm, the distance between the seeds is observed 2 cm, then the box is covered with glass and placed in a warm place. Before the appearance of the first shoots, the temperature should be maintained in the range from 20 to 22 degrees. When the seedlings have already sprouted through our mixture, the degree should be reduced to +17 ° ... + 18 ° С in the daytime, at night +10 ° ... + 14 ° С.

Onion seedling grows rather slowly to improve growth and keep sprouts in good condition at home, water planting ash extract (0.5 cups of ash / 5 liters of warm water, leave to infuse overnight, then use).

Another part of gardeners prefer to grow onion seedlings of Exibichen in plastic transparent cups, one seed for each glass. This method is very good because when planting in open ground, sprouts practically do not suffer, it turns out a kind of transfer of seedlings from a cup to a garden bed.

On the onset of the month of May, boxes with sprouted shoots should be brought out into the street during the daytime, this will to some extent adapt the Exhibhen bow to the subsequent growth conditions. In the open ground, Exhibishen is planted when the threat of frost has passed, but you can be safe by building a hotbed of arcs and films.

By the time the seedlings are planted in open ground, the onion sprouts will be 15–20 cm long. Pour handfuls of humus and ashes into each well, 1-2 grams of granulated superphosphate. It is better to plant the exibishchen according to the scheme, observing 30 cm distance between the rows of 0.2 m between the plants in a row, so that there is an opportunity to develop large good bulbs.

As for the care, this question is quite universal and requires attention both among the lovers of seedling and seed production of onions. First of all, it is very important to ensure that the Exichenes future bulbs have the proper level of watering, however, this also applies to other varieties, for example, the Centurion onions should also be watered properly. The frequency of watering should be no more than moderate, you should not flood the planting. In addition to watering, it is important to deal in a timely manner with other vegetation, which seeks to heed all the gifts of fertilized and carefully prepared soil (wheat grass, grass mats, birch and other weeds). In addition, sprinkle and powder planting ash from an onion fly, use tobacco dust.

The secret to getting large onions of Exhibiches lies in the timely treatment of respeciation (downy mildew), otherwise, the bulbs will be of normal size and will not gain mass corresponding to the varietal characteristics. The feather and neck will dry out, the bulbs will stop growing at the very moment when they will have to gain weight (the end of July-August). To combat use Bordeaux liquid, copper oxychloride suspension, drugs Arceride, Polikarbatsin (according to instructions).

How to get onion seed seeds and when to clean?

Many gardeners do not know how to get the seeds of Onionfish, so the information will be further useful for many. If the majority of gardeners know how to grow onion seedlings from seeds, and there are no problems with getting the nipper itself, then in this case, there is a slightly different and more difficult task - to grow the seeds of the onion Exibichen. Experienced gardeners act as follows - in a normal bucket pour drainage from wood chips or bark of fruit trees, a layer of 10-15 cm. Next, fill with a mixture of humus and fertile soil (1: 1).

Now take the largest onion, which is available, and bury in the soil mixture by 1/3. Well pour and clean in the greenhouse, nursery, on the veranda or balcony, where the bow does not rot and does not freeze.

It is necessary to preserve the onion until spring, and this is rather difficult to do, since the keeping quality is small. With the onset of heat, the bucket is brought out into a sunny place, providing proper care and watering. According to the reviews, the exhibition Exhibhen should shoot an arrow, from which it will be possible then to collect the seeds.

Clean the Exhibition, when the feather begins to lie down and turn yellow, the neck dries out. But, two weeks before harvesting, watering is completely removed, and the ground around is otberebayut a little, so that strong big heads are formed.

Description and characteristics of the variety

Onion Exhibition Fruit is grown in annual crops, most often sowing seeds for seedlings in winter or early spring. 130 days pass from germination to harvest. The onion head is ovoid, elongated, the mass of one bulb weighs on average 170–550 grams, but with good care individual bulbs grow to 800 grams. Onion flakes are dry, straw-colored, white in the cut.

The top scales of the onion of Exibishen are straw-colored and the fresh ones are white

Exhibition-salad variety with a delicate flavor. When cutting such onions, few essential oils are secreted, so it does not irritate the eye mucosa. Onion shelf life - up to four months.

Soil preparation

Soil for seedlings can be composed independently of the following components:

  • coconut substrate briquette,
  • 5 liters of peat land,
  • 5 liters of garden land,
  • 1 liter of biohumus,
  • 1 cup of vermiculite.

A coconut briquette is soaked in 2–3 liters of water, peat and garden soil is added there, everything is mixed, biohumus and vermiculite are added and mixed again. Garden and peat land can be preheated in the oven at a temperature of 80 0 C for about 30 minutes - this will help get rid of pests and diseases.

The choice of capacity for landing

For growing seedlings of onions, it is preferable to take a bowl with a depth of more than 10 cm. Experiments have shown that onion grows better in such containers and by the time of landing in the ground already forms small heads.

In a shallow bowl, seedlings are thin, and in a deeper head

Suit deep boxes of cakes or disposable containers.

Planting seeds

Most often, the seeds of this onion are already processed with various preparations, which is indicated on the package, therefore they are sown dry. The stages of planting seeds of onion seedlings:

  1. Fill the container with soil and lightly seal it.
  2. Make grooves at a distance of 2 cm from each other.
  3. Spread the seeds with tweezers, leaving 1 cm between them.
  4. Sprinkle with soil, falling asleep seeds 5 mm.
  5. Pour hot water (60–70 0 С).
  6. Cover with foil and place in a warm place (on a heated floor or under the battery).

In order not to measure the temperature of the water, it is easier to use this scheme: boiling a kettle, pour boiling water into a cold ceramic or glass tumbler, then take a metal tablespoon and scoop water from the glass, pouring a bowl with seeds. If the area is large, then take a few spoons.

When boiling water comes into contact, first with a cup, and then with a spoon, the water is cooled and the desired temperature is obtained. This helps to flush the essential oils from the seeds, and they germinate together for 3-5 days.

Planting seedlings in the ground

Onions - cold-resistant culture and can withstand slight frost, so depending on the region, it is planted from late April to mid-May.

Best of all, if in the previous season, cabbage, potatoes, legumes, grains, zucchini or pumpkin grew on the selected bed. Do not plant onions where carrots, onions, garlic, beets, cucumber or corn grew.

The bed is loosened or dug, fertilizers are not applied, and furrows or ridges are made immediately. The distance between the rows should be 40 cm.

Landing the ridge is considered the best landing method.. With further growth of the onion, the land from the ridge is poured off and by the end of the growing season the whole onion is on the surface - it is no longer necessary to rake the soil from the bulbs. However, in more southern, arid regions, landing on the ridges will lead to the fact that water will have to be more and more abundant.

When planting in the ridges, there is no need for shoveling the earth from the bulbs.

Stages landing in the ground:

If the onions were not seated from a bowl in individual cups, then the whole bowl is placed in a basin of water.

Soaking is necessary to remove the soil from the roots

Pruning is done to stimulate further growth.

Mulching and loosening

As soon as the threat of recurrent frosts is over, onions should be mulched. As mulch, you can use beveled weeds, lawn grass, rotted sawdust, chips of deciduous trees or shrubs. The layer of mulch should be at least 10 cm, this will preserve moisture in the soil. To loosen such a bed is no longer necessary, and weeds on it will be much less.

If it is not possible to mulch the bed, then after each watering they will surely loosen the onion.

Onion Exhibition water is watered depending on weather conditions. If it is not very hot weather or it rains, then watering does not. But if in the summer in the sun the thermometer shows more than +30 0 С, then once a week a bed with a bow is well shed.

It is advisable to water the bed with onions rarely, but it is abundant, the soil should be wetted to a depth of 20 cm.

2–4 weeks before harvest, the onions cease to be watered in order to fill the heads.

The first feeding produced 2 weeks after planting. In the first half of summer it is necessary to feed the onions with the following fertilizers:

  • 1 liter of liquid mullein insists 3 days in 10 liters of water and then diluted 1 liter of infusion per bucket of water,
  • 0.5 liters of dry bird droppings insist in 10 liters of water, then dilute 1 liter of the obtained infusion per bucket,
  • 25 grams of urea are diluted in a bucket of water and watered.

All dressings are carried out only after watering - the soil should be wet. In the second half of June, they begin to feed with biohumus and Orgavite, alternating them.

Organavit contains a lot of phosphorus and potassium

All feeding is carried out with an interval of 10-14 days.

On soils rich in humus and organic matter, as well as on the mulched beds, fertilizing with Shining and Baikal has shown itself well.

Baikal Em contains beneficial bacteria that process organic matter into nutrients

If the summer is rainy, then feeding is carried out after the rain.

Diseases and pests of onions

Most often the onion is affected by an onion fly. Its activity occurs during the flowering of the cherry. Planting onions at this time can be hidden under the covering material. The smell of tar or carrots well repels the onion fly, so the beds often alternate with the onions and carrots or they mulch the beds of dry carrot leaves left over from the autumn.

Onion fly lays eggs in the bottom of the bulb

Rot occurs due to thickened landings or excessive moisture. Especially often occur in rainy summer, when onions do not dry out before digging. The best prevention of rot is a canopy, when the moisture on the bed does not get, and the air passes freely.

The rot appears inside the bulb, diseased plants are removed from the beds

Harvesting onions

It is better to remove the bow of the exhibition after softening the root collar and lodging the feather. Onions are pulled out with hands or dug with forks, then left to dry for several days in a well-ventilated room. In cool weather, you can leave a bow in the open air for several hours.

It’s easy to clean large onion heads

After a week, the roots and feather residues are usually cut and onions are harvested or used in salads, since the maximum storage time for this onion is 4 months at 5 0 C.

Breeding onion exibichen

Since onions are most often not stored until spring, it is quite problematic to get seeds from it. It will rot if left in the ground for the winter.

If you have survived small bulbs of the Exhibishen variety, weighing 150–200 grams, which already had green feathers, plant them in high pots with a volume of 1-2 liters, filled with not too nutritious soil: peat ground + rotten sawdust or coconut fiber + sand or vermiculite. The bulb is planted in this soil at 1/3 and watered abundantly, watching in the future for the soil, which must be constantly wet. It is advisable not to remove the feathers from the bulb and not to weaken the plant. Since the onion forcing occurs in the winter, be sure to do extra lighting. With the onset of heat, you can plant such a bow in a greenhouse or on a separate bed.

Make sure that the flower is not broken.

It is important that other flowering varieties of onions do not grow close by, since they can be pereopylitsya, and you will no longer be Exibichen, but a new unique variety.

By the end of summer, ripe seeds are ready for harvest.

Gardeners reviews about this variety of onions

Without onions, I can not imagine my garden. I plant several varieties at once. Some I grow through seeds. Last year, she bought onion seeds Prestige "Exhibition" on the market. About this grade heard for a long time and only good. This variety struck me with its size. I received an unprecedented harvest of onions. The exhibition variety is mainly used for salads. I add it when cooking for their home. The largest onion pulled from me to 600 grams. And my neighbor had the same bow weighed about 800 grams. But this is not the limit. It all depends on the care of the plant. I like this onion for its juiciness and taste. It has thick and fleshy scales. It tastes sweet and slightly spicy. I sow onion seeds in peat tablets. After 2 months, I form a strong and healthy onion seedlings. I planted her in May in the beds along with the pill on which she grew. Onions are quickly accepted and grow well. I regularly water it, loosen it and feed it. Top dressing I do 2-3 times per season and only organic fertilizers. This onion can be used in conservation. He has one drawback. It is stored for only 3-4 months.

I have been cultivating this sort of onion in my plot for several years and can tell you how I do it. In early February, I sow seeds for seedlings in "snails". Seeds germinate in 2 weeks. As soon as I saw the green loops, I unwrap the “snail” and cover it with earth. Again I wrap it up and now put it in the light. Everything! This method allows you to save space on the windowsill. It only remains to water the seedlings from time to time and cut the grown “brush” to form small onions. I do not feed, the earth contains a sufficient amount of fertilizer and trace elements for plant growth. I plant in an open ground, as soon as warm weather is established, the seedlings of lungs are not afraid of freezing. Over the entire length of the bed, at a distance of 30 cm, I make grooves, spill them with water, moisten and “snail”, unfold it and carefully place thin strings of onions at a distance of 30 cm. The first time I water the garden every day until the seedlings settle down and start growing, and then as the soil dries up I clean the onions when the feather turns yellow and starts to go to bed, dry well under a canopy. Heads grow large, some reached 400g.

This is the second year I grow onions in the country. First, in April, soot seeds, growing seedlings, it is not necessary to dive. When planting a little pruned roots and tops. Planted in mid-May. By the end of August, I get quite large bulbs that grow above the ground in the garden. This salad salad onion, it will not be stored all winter, very juicy and not at all bitter. The treatment is simple, watering and loosening, watered the gummat solution a couple of times. During the season a good onion grows from a small seed. A package of seeds in the store Seeds for Siberia bought for 16 rubles.

The exhibition is a delicious salad type of onion. With the right agricultural technology, its heads can grow to 800 grams and even more. The only disadvantage of this variety is the short shelf life, but despite this, it is becoming increasingly popular among gardeners.

What is remarkable this variety

For the first time this variety of giant onion appeared on the territory of Holland. His bulbs are really very large, the weight of each of them can reach half a kilogram. Moreover, individual copies can weigh even more than a kilogram. Any gardener dreams of growing such onions, after all Exichen has many important advantages compared to other popular onion varieties. This is a salad onion, which has a pleasant sweet taste and considerable juiciness. Due to its characteristic properties, it is suitable not only for preparing delicious dishes, but also for use as an independent product.

Noteworthy and useful properties of this sort of onions. It has a positive effect on human health due to the high content of minerals and vitamins. In addition, onions are the real thunderstorm of all viruses, bacteria and harmful microorganisms.

The only drawback of onion, belonging to the variety Exichen, is its short shelf life, which is only three to four months. After this period, the vegetable begins to lose its previous taste and eventually deteriorates.

There are many factors that encourage the start of cultivation, the onions of this variety are useful and tasty, and therefore ideal for use in cooking. The main thing is to have an idea about the basic rules of planting this crop, as well as what care should be.

What to look for when planting and growing

The onion of the variety Eksibishen represents an annual crop and is characterized by a certain complexity of cultivation. To achieve success in this lesson, it is important to know about all the secrets and nuances.

Consider a few of the most important points that need to be considered before you start growing this variety of onions.

Take into account a few nuances in order to achieve the most successful cultivation: the onion of Exibichen is quite capricious, and therefore requires adherence to special rules during planting and maintenance.

Since this variety has come to us from warm edges, it is necessary to create appropriate conditions for a favorable planting and further growth.

There are two options for planting Exhibishen - it is possible through seedlings, also through seeds, to grow them. Onions of this variety in our latitudes will yield the crop as efficiently as possible if it is planted through seedlings, since according to the recommendations of the agrotechnology, the growing season can last up to eighty days. The seedling method is optimal for regions with a short summer. It requires a certain amount of time, but only in this case will the truly truly large bulbs be provided.

Stages of seedling preparation

The first step is to properly prepare the seedlings. For these purposes, it is recommended to sow onions at the very beginning of spring or the end of winter.

The main stages of preparation are as follows:

  • Selected onion seeds of the variety Exibishen are soaked in warm water.
  • After a few hours, the seeds are wrapped in a slightly damp cloth — they should stay in this position for another 2-3 days.

To get an excellent harvest of this giant onion, the soil should be as nutritious as possible. This will require the following components:

  • humus - 9 parts,
  • turf ground - 10 parts,
  • enough rotted mullein - 1 part.

As the most suitable containers for seedlings can be used various boxes, cups or plastic cassettes.

Before planting seeds, it is recommended to thoroughly treat them with “Fitosporin” - this tool is able to provide the plant with reliable protection against the most common diseases. It should be borne in mind that the processing of onions "Fitosporin" is possible at any stage of its development.

Of the above ingredients, you should prepare the mixture and mix it thoroughly. Then you need to fill the previously prepared container with the mixture and plant the seeds in it - it is recommended to plant them rather densely. The optimum depth at which to sow the seeds should be 1.5 centimeters.

It is very important to choose the right type of substrate for sowing seeds. For these purposes, special mixtures may be suitable, which are sold in all stores of garden and gardening directions. You can also use for this pre-fertilized peat.

When all containers are carefully filled with the substrate with seeds, they must be covered with glass or polyethylene film, and then placed in a place that is at the same time quite shady and warm.

After one or one and a half weeks, when the very first shoots, glass or plastic wrap, used as a coating, begin to appear, it should be removed. Then fresh young sprouts of onion should be transferred to the beds, well covered with sunlight. To grow a high quality crop, it is necessary to feed with the help of an effective mineral fertilizer - this procedure should be repeated every week. To dilute the nutrient solution, you need to use 1 liter of water and 1 gram of fertilizer.

Each watering and feeding is accompanied by loosening. This procedure helps the earth crust not to form on the surface of the soil, ensuring the flow of minerals and the flow of fresh air to the root system. A month before harvesting, as a rule, in August, watering is reduced. Signal harvesting serves yellowing and lodging onion feather. After digging, we dry the bulbs in the street or attic, then use them for fresh consumption. For long-term storage in the basement Exhibitin is not suitable.
