Slyzun bow: useful properties and contraindications

Slyzun onions, or, as it is also called, drooping onions, has not yet become widespread, such as onions, batun or leek, but its useful properties, healing, nutritional qualities deserve more attention. In the garden, he will not bring much trouble to the gardener. It is very decorative, besides it is a good honey plant.

It grows wild in the south of Western and Eastern Siberia, Altai, in the mountains of Central Asia. It grows large clumps in the steppes, forest-steppe, as well as in the solonetz, on the southern slopes of the mountain ranges, provided good lighting and sufficient soil moisture. Local residents of Altai, Siberia use it fresh, salted, dried.

Useful components of leaves collected in the summer, will not lose their valuable properties during the long winter.

Agrotechnika onion-slizuna

This type of onion grows on any fertile soils with good moisture.

Propagated by the plant and seeds, and division of the bush. Sowing and planting carried out from late April to mid-July. Later planting dates are not suitable for this crop, since the onions must grow and accumulate an adequate supply of nutrients for a successful wintering. Sow it on ridges or on a flat surface with three-, four-line ribbons, the distance between which is 50 cm, between the lines is 25-30 cm. Shoots appear 20-30 days after sowing.

Onion-slizun planted and individual bushes. From two-, three-year plantations, bushes are dug out and divided into bulbs. One bush produces from 15 to 30 or more bulbs, which are planted in one-row rows at a distance of 50 cm, in a row - by 20 cm.

Onion care is systematically loosening, weeding, watering and feeding. Since perennial onions cannot compete with perennial weeds, the beds for sowing perennial onions for cultivation in one place should be completely free from weeds. It is necessary to watch this carefully, in time destroying the weed plants that appear.

During the season, onions are cut to five times. The first cut is carried out as soon as 5-6 green feathers grow on the onion. After this, it is necessary to conduct a nitrogen fertilizer, preferably organic. Cutting the feather is done as needed throughout the first half of the summer as the leaves reach a length of 30 cm. Do not allow the leaves to outgrow and become rough. Then the onion will bloom, during this period it must be given a complex mineral supplement. A month before the onset of frost, the onion slizun must be fed with phosphorus and potassium for better wintering if it is grown in a perennial crop. As a rule, from three to five kilograms of crop is harvested from one square meter. In the autumn they spend only one cleaning. At the end of October, all remaining leaves and arrows are cut off and inter-row spacing is processed.

In late sowing - in July - by autumn the onion will have 4-5 leaves. Its cleaning is done in the spring. You can only cut the feather, leaving the onion to grow in a perennial crop, and you can remove the aboveground part with the roots, and plant later crops in July on this garden bed, for example, radishes, spinach, dill, which still have time to yield.

When growing this onion in an annual crop, it is better to plant it on seedlings in early April, and then transplant it on the bed that was vacated after growing lettuce or radish, when it has 3-4 true leaves. It is better to do it in a “bouquet”, that is, 3-4 plants per well will follow immediately according to the 30x30 cm scheme. In this case, the onion harvest can be obtained 1.5 months after planting the seedlings on the bed, and there will be another opportunity to grow on this bed re radishes or dill.

For the forcing of feathers in greenhouses and greenhouses, onions are dug out from the autumn and stored in piles not far from the greenhouse.

Onion slizun frost-resistant, young shoots tolerate temperatures up to -6 degrees.

According to the materials of the newspaper "Ural Gardener", №31, 2014

The feathers of this onion are usually eaten raw. Escape the standard color and garlic flavor. Each of the sheets can grow to a length of 0.3 meters and give a yield of two kilograms per square meter.

How to plant?

This plant species propagates by seed as well as vegetatively. Before you sow, it is recommended to soak the seeds in a solution with a growth stimulator, after which they need to be dried in a day to a loose state. Sowing in the garden in the springtime can be carried out as soon as possible. This procedure is quite simple:

  • furrows with a distance of 0.3 meters are made,
  • the seeds are laid one and a half to two centimeters deep.

The emergence of seedlings can be seen within three weeks, after which you need to thin them, leaving about ten centimeters between plants.

If it is necessary to carry out sowing before winter, then it is best to do it in October.

In regions with a short summer period, the cultivation of seedlings is recommended. Start sowing by mid-February - early March. Stages:

  • sod and humus soil is mixed in equal quantity, then sieved manure is added in advance,
  • the soil is disinfected by spilling a strong manganese solution,
  • cassette cups can be used for cultivation by placing in each of three or four seeds,
  • if boxes are used for seeding, then one centimeter distance must be maintained,
  • sprinkling with soil should be no more than a centimeter thick, then it is worth holding a light compaction and spraying with a growth stimulator,
  • crops need to be covered with film and germination at a temperature of at least twenty degrees of heat,
  • after the appearance of the first shoots it is necessary to remove the shelter, be sure to maintain heat and humidity in the room.

After the seedlings become strong, as well as the onset of heat, you can begin transplanting into open ground. This is the end of April - the beginning of May. The distance between plants should be not less than 0.25 meters, and between separate rows - 0.5 meters.

Consider the process of preparing the territory for planting a drooping bow.

  • It is necessary to prepare a site during the autumn period. During digging humus, superphosphate, potash salt is applied. In the spring, do not forget about making saltpeter.
  • Peaty and loamy soil is the most suitable for this plant.
  • The plot should be brightly lit, but the onions can grow in the shade. It is not recommended to choose a place where water can stagnate.
  • It is best to plant onion drooping after predecessors such as tomatoes and cabbage.

This perennial root vegetable has good resistance to frost. He is able to produce crops for about four years, during this period his shoots have a powerful structure. To increase productivity, it is worth replanting onions. The first sheets can be seen in a month after landing.

If the onion is grown only for eating, then it is advisable to remove the flower stalks, thus the plant will be able to preserve important elements.

Many prefer to grow perennial in their gardens. For this purpose, the seeds should be planted during the end of spring or the beginning of summer. Good yields can be harvested if the soil is peaty or loamy. When soil digging occurs, fertilizer should be added to it, in particular, urea.

After the soil is flattened and slightly compacted, furrows are made for planting. Onion grains sink one centimeter deep. It is necessary to observe the distance between the rows to 0.7 meters.

But you can also use important tips from experienced gardeners.

  • If onion cultivation is planned in the southern region, the seeds should be planted immediately in open soil in the second half of April.
  • Slyzun categorically is not recommended to be planted near other onion varieties, especially with bulb. This will cause unwanted pollination, leaflets will appear bitter and the garlic aroma will disappear.
  • Adult onions require constant removal of green arrows, otherwise they will be tasteless.
  • For good yields, it is necessary that moisture always remain in the soil. The plant will not die from drought, but its leaves will become hard and unsuitable for human consumption.

Special measures for the care of a slizunov-onion is not required, but do not leave it unattended. In order for this plant to develop normally, the following actions are necessary:

  • sufficient watering
  • the process of loosening between rows
  • weed control
  • feeding

When the plant lives only a year after planting, do not forget to remove the weed, which suppresses the still fragile sapling. After the growth of the bush, it ceases to be afraid of harmful plants, as it independently suppresses them.

Watering is carried out when it is necessary, that is, when drying the soil. If the plant is too filled with water, it will not have a positive effect on its growth and development.

After watering is done, the soil needs to be loosened to increase breathability.

During the second season of growth and every subsequent year during the digging of the soil and its loosening it is necessary to introduce humus, ash, which are simply necessary not only for fertilizer, but also to reduce the acidity of the soil. In the fall it is also desirable fertilizer, an effective and inexpensive tool is wood ash.

This variety of onion requires cutting the leaves several times per season. The last pruning is not necessary before the onset of cold weather, but approximately in September. Thus, the plant will be able to better prepare for the winter period.

By the fourth year of the plant's life, it is recommended to divide the bushes. It is necessary to carry out this procedure in August or September. Before digging the earth is watered, then a careful extraction of the plant is carried out. About five onions should be present on each plot.
