Acacia grows well in the southern regions and in the temperate zone. Her planting and care are not difficult: it is enough to take into account the features of an unpretentious tree.
Trees are an indispensable element of landscaping the site, and the acacia is great for solving this problem. It has a decorative appearance, its flowers exude a pleasant, but unobtrusive scent, and special plant care is not required. In addition, it tolerates bad weather conditions and grows rapidly, including in the middle zone.
Acquaintance with white acacia
From a botanical point of view, the name of the species is incorrect: by “white acacia” is meant false assassination robinia. She is the closest relative of the acacia "true", entering with her into the family of legumes, but the genera of plants are different.
It is a spreading tree with an openwork crown, reaching a height of up to 18 m. It grows very quickly: by 3 years of age it reaches up to 5 m. The leaves are bright green. Flowers decorating the tree from late May to July look like small white moths. They are collected in drooping bunches. Inflorescences smell nice and attract bees, so the tree is a honey plant.
In the southern regions, Robinia is an evergreen, but in the middle zone it drops foliage, which becomes golden in the fall.
Robinia is a valuable decorative culture. It is used in group and single landings for registration of sites near houses and institutions, streets, alleys and parks. You can appreciate its beauty in the photo of white acacia in landscape design.
Each year, acacia adds about 80-100 cm in height (growth is particularly intensive in young trees), and 30 cm in width of the crown.
There are two ways of reproduction - seeds (germination in the greenhouse) and basal growth. The second option is used more often, because it is faster and easier.
Start preparing for planting should be with the choice of location. For this it is useful to know the preferences of Robinia:
- the tree loves sunlight, so it is recommended to plant it in open areas,
- false acacia tolerates air pollution, and it is suitable for landscaping sites in cities and regions with poor ecology,
- the plant is frost-resistant: it can be planted in a temperate climate, because adult specimens withstand temperatures up to -35 ° C,
- reacts painfully to cold winds and drafts,
- soil-tolerant, but prefers light soil (with no or minimal amount of clay) and does not tolerate stagnant water.
Planting and caring for white acacia, the photo of which does not convey the beauty of the tree, is not particularly difficult. Climate should be taken into account: if the region is characterized by northern winds, it is recommended to plant white acacia in a place protected from them. For example, behind a wall of a house or trees with a thick crown.
Mature trees usually produce basal shoots. It is enough to dig a spike and plant it in a new place. To do this, make a small hole, fix the plant in it and shed the soil. Very soon the sapling will take root and start growing quickly.
White acacia does not like the soil sown. Therefore, the root area should be weeded, removing weeds with long roots, and mulch. For the same reason, the tree is not recommended to plant in the vicinity of fruit trees with a developed root system.
It is a little harder to propagate a false acacia seed seed. The beans ripen by the end of November, after which they are harvested and stored in paper in the refrigerator. The best time to plant is spring.
Seeds should undergo pre-sowing treatment: scalding with boiling water followed by immersion in cold water for 12 hours. Then they are planted in loose soil or greenhouse. The optimum temperature for the development of young white acacias is from 22 ° C to 25 ° C. By the end of the year, seedlings reach 1 m. Next spring they can be transplanted to a permanent place.
The distance between the planted seeds must be at least 20 cm.
Special care is required for young seedlings. The soil around them should be regularly weeded and loosened. In order for the plant to grow faster, it is recommended to make organic dressings and spray it with a phytostimulator (for example, Epin). In regions with a cold winter, young specimens are sheltered so that they will not be destroyed by frost.
Adult white acacia is undemanding to care. They do not need to warm for the winter. Usually, the tree is satisfied with natural rainfall, so additional watering is needed only in very dry summers.
Plus white acacia - enviable resistance to pests and diseases.
All Robinia respond well to the introduction of organic. Cured manure is excellent. On fertile soils, two supplements will suffice: at the beginning of spring and at the beginning of flowering, and not depleted, fertilization is recommended every month.
White acacia lends itself well to crown formation and tolerates pruning of shoots. The optimal time for the procedure is early spring. Remove dry shoots and shoots around the roots.
Planting white acacia and care in the suburbs (as in other regions with similar climates) does not require much time and effort. The main thing is to choose a bright place for a tree without stagnation of water. Young specimens require a little more attention: watering and shelter for the winter, and adult robinia grow well without much care, pleasing the eye with snow-white clusters of flowers.

Trees are an indispensable element of garden landscaping. Among the popular cultivated plants for decorating the site is the white acacia. It blooms from May to July, catches the eye. Acacia grows well in the middle lane of the country and its suburbs. To learn how to grow white acacia, read the article.
White acacia or robinia ploshnoakatsionny-tall tree (up to 6 meters or more) with an openwork crown. The cultivated plant develops in favorable conditions very quickly. By three years, stretched to 5 meters in height. The flowers are collected in a drooping bunch, looks like small white moths. Beautiful bloom adorns the tree from May to July. Acacia is a good honey plant. The aroma of flowers attracts bees from all around.
Robinia has become widespread in Africa and North and South America. It survives well in middle latitudes, with moderately cold winters. Adult and healthy trees tolerate lowering temperatures to -30 degrees. Lower temperature, destructive for plants.
In the climatic conditions of the Moscow region, the foliage on the tree in the autumn acquires a golden color and falls to the winter. The situation is different in the southern regions. In warm climates, Robin is an evergreen. That is, the foliage does not fall off, but remains on the tree all year round.
Site selection and soil preparation
White locust - tall tree with a spreading crown. Therefore, when choosing a place for a tree, give preference to a spacious area where it will be able to fully grow and develop. It is necessary to keep the distance between the plants - at least 2.5 meters.
The tree loves sunshine. The shade of larger trees or buildings, has a bad effect on development. Acacia grows well in loose soils. It is undesirable to plant seedlings in lowlands with clay soil, where moisture accumulates in spring and summer. On the contrary choose small elevations.
Robinia root system is strong and powerful. During development, selects nutrients from neighboring plants. Therefore, planting fruit trees next to them is not recommended because acacia inhibits the root system.
Planting white acacia
There are two ways of breeding robinia - root growth and seed. In the presence of a large plant, near it finds shoots and transplanted to a new place.
The cultivation of acacia from seed, practiced by gardeners to breed new varieties. Also often, this is the only way to grow a tree in the area, if there is no large plant nearby.
The main rules of planting a tree on the site:
- Dig a planting pit, slightly larger than the root system. Add a little bit of humus or compost to the hole.
- It is recommended to cut the seedling with an open root system so that the lower and upper parts are proportionate. Shorten the long root system slightly.
- Put a seedling in a planting hole on a mound, drive a stake and cover it with earth. Sprinkle with plenty of water and cover with a thin layer of mulch. Strengthen sapling. When planting, pay for the location of the root collar - it should be at ground level.
Under favorable weather conditions and proper planting, the plant grows annually in height by 60 cm or even higher. Blossom begins at the age of four.
Care for white acacia
In the first years of life, the main care is to protect the tree from frost in winter. In late autumn, when a stable sub-zero temperature is established, wrap the trunk with burlap, and cover the base of the tree with a thick layer of dry grass. In the spring, when the onset of heat, shelter to remove.
The nutrients introduced during planting last two years. In the third year, they feed with nitrogenous mineral or organic fertilizers in the flowering period. At the end of the summer, fertilized with ashes (1 cup per stem). Mature plants do not need a special feed. On hot days, spend watering young plants.
Do not form acacia in the garden. Natural growth, forms a beautiful and spreading crown. Only frozen and damaged branches need pruning.
It originates from North America, where it grows on wet limestone soils, from lowlands up to 1350 m above sea level. seas, in the deciduous forests from Pennsylvania to Georgia and Oklahoma. It is widely known in the culture of the countries of Western Europe, in some areas it is even mistakenly considered an aboriginal species.
Deciduous tree up to 30 m tall, with a trunk diameter of 30-40 cm, with a translucent, spreading, openwork crown, consisting of separate tiers. The bark on the trunks of dark gray, with long longitudinal cracks, at a young age gray-brown. Shoots are bare, greenish-gray or red-brown, prickly. Leaves alternate, pinnate, from 7-19 leaflets obovate or elliptical. In the spring they are green, silky-pubescent, in the summer they are dark green, sometimes yellowish, they are glaucous and naked below, in the fall they are dark green. The flowers are white or slightly pinkish, fragrant, in drooping brushes up to 20 cm long. The fruit is a brown, flat, linear-oblong bean 5-12 cm long.
Young plants are sensitive to low temperatures. With age, their winter hardiness increases, but sometimes, at low temperatures, plants can be damaged to the level of snow cover. Due to the high pobegoobrazovatelnuyu ability, subject to the preservation of the roots and root collar, the plants are quickly restored. It grows quickly, especially in the first decade, tolerates pruning and transplanting. It is undemanding to soil fertility and moisture, but on wet, heavy soils it often suffers from frost. Very light-requiring and drought-resistant. In continuous stands high tolerates the crown.
It is one of the most gas-and smoke-resistant species with an extensive, branching root system, which determines its resistance to wind. Like other members of this family, nodules that contain bacteria capable of binding atmospheric nitrogen and thus enriching the soil develop on the roots of Robinia. Durable, lives up to 300 years.
In favorable years it blooms annually and abundantly after the appearance of leaves at a time when most trees and shrubs fade. The leaves are kept until frost resistant and fall off almost without changing the green color. In winter, the numerous fruits that last until spring give a decorative effect to the tree. Propagated by seeds. Seeds are hard.
Planting white Acacia, or how to have fragrant flowers on the dacha
Recommended treatment with. concentrated H2S04 for 10–120 minutes or immersing them in boiling water for 5 s, followed by germination at a temperature not exceeding 24 ° C.
Not enough winter-hardy in the Moscow region, young specimens sometimes frost up to the root collar. Winter hardiness increases with age, but even-mature trees die at -40 ° C. Being one of the leading ornamental species in gardening southern drylands, it is widely used in the casing of streets, alleys, single and group plantings in gardens and parks. Spherical, standard forms it is used in ordinary landings, pyramidal - in complex landscape gardening compositions. Scope - most of Russia, except for the northern regions. In culture since 1620.
In the GBS since 1935, 15 samples (28 copies) were grown from seeds obtained from natural habitats and culture, as well as of unknown origin. Age of plants from 20 to 50 years. A tree, at 5 years old, is 2.7 m high, a crown diameter is 180–220 cm, at 30 years old, a height is 13–14 m, a trunk diameter is 27–35 cm. Vegetation is from late April to early May until mid-October. Growing fast. Blooms annually, abundantly, for 10-12 days in mid-June. Fruits from 4-5 years, annually, the fruits ripen in late September-early October. Winter hardiness is average, at a young age it is less hardy. Seed viability of 90-100%, germination of 10-20%. In the collection were samples of reproduction GBS. Rooted 10% of summer cuttings. Occasionally found in landscaping Moscow.
For white acacia is characterized by a large variety of decorative forms, differing in shape of the crown: pyramid (f. stricta), umbrella (f. umbraculifera), etc., by flower color and flowering pattern: white and pink (f. Decaisheana), always blooming (f. semperflorens), in shape and color of leaves: univalent (f. unifolia) golden (f. aurea), dissected leaf (f. dissecta), etc., as well as the typical form, without spines (f. inermis).
‘Frisia‘. This tree up to 8 m in height, in central Russia can grow as a shrub, grows quickly. A plant with surprisingly bright golden luminous foliage and white tassels (up to 20 cm long) fragrant moth flowers. In summer, the color of the leaves becomes more muted. The shape of the crown is very beautiful - sprawling, openwork - the branches are arranged in tiers. On the shoots there are thorns. Sometimes a golden form of Robinia is grafted into a stem - it looks like a small tree right away, it is necessary to remove all emerging growth below the graft site. If it is a bush form, then every spring this variety can be strongly cut, almost to the base, then ohm will be formed in the form of a dense, bright yellow bush. This species also has a varietyAurea‘. For all specifications ‘Aurea‘The same as‘Frisia‘, But the color of the leaves is not so bright, more green.
R. p. f. decaisneana(Carriere) Voss. - P. l. Dekesne. In the GBS since 1960, 1 sample (1 copy). A tree, at the age of 10 years, is 3.5 m high, the trunk diameter is 2.0-4.5 cm. Dates of phenological development coincide with the main view.
In the wild, the height of Robinia reaches 25 m, cultivated species grow to 18 m. The crown of the tree is spreading, multi-tiered, and openwork. The life span of white acacia is long - up to 300 years. The diameter of the ancient trees reaches 1 m.
The root system of the tree is powerful, the central root goes underground at a depth of 20 m, the lateral roots lie close to the soil surface.
Young shoots of light green color, with age, they acquire thorny thorns. Robinia is growing rapidly, for the year the increase is about 0.8-1.5 m.
Leaves are pinnate, ellipsoid, alternately arranged, yellow-green in spring and dark green in autumn. On one petiole are about 20 leaves.
Flowers of acacia are collected in the brush-like drooping inflorescences. Flowers are irregular five-leafed leaves, consisting of one main large petal, two lateral and two lower ones, fused and forming a boat.
Honey flowers emit a strong, delicate aroma that attracts bees and bumblebees, they collect nectar with their long proboscis, and at the same time pollinate complex flowers.
Flowering in temperate climates occurs from late May to mid-June; it lasts 2-3 weeks.
In early autumn, elongated dark brown pods ripen with beans inside.
Attention! ! !The fruits of the plant are poisonous, they can not be used as feed for livestock.
The benefits of white acacia
- First of all, white acacia is an excellent honey plant. From a hectare of Robinia plantations, bees can collect 400-600 kg of the most valuable medicinal honey. This dietary honey has a greenish-yellow hue, a delicate aroma and does not sugary for a long time.
- The powerful root system of the tree prevents soil erosion, the acacia is often planted as forest shelter belts.
- According to legend, Noah's Ark was built from robin wood. Since ancient times, its high-strength wood has been valued and used in shipbuilding, for the manufacture of parquet and doors.
- Flowers and white acacia bark are used in folk medicine. Extracts and infusions of them are part of many medicines.
- White acacia is the main outdoor tree in many cities of Russia and Ukraine, because it is not susceptible to gas pollution and air pollution, easily tolerates adverse weather conditions.
- The unique aroma of flowers of Robinia has always attracted perfumers. With the participation of the aroma of white acacia created many perfume compositions.
- White acacia is widely used in landscape design. Она прекрасно смотрится в единичных посадках и в сложных садовых и парковых композициях, в оформлении аллей.
Выбор места и подготовка к посадке
Acacia is very unpretentious to the environment. The main requirement when choosing a landing site - a spacious sunny area. The distance between the trees should be provided at least 2.5 m, given the spreading of the crown. There should be no other tall trees nearby, the acacia likes sunlight.
Strong cold winds and drafts will not benefit this tree. Lowland areas with stagnation of cold air masses are not suitable for planting.
Close groundwater is not acceptable, the roots of the tree in this case will rot, which will lead to the death of the plant.
Virtually any soil will suit the white acacia, but it feels better on loose and light soils. If the soil is loamy, it can be enriched with a mixture of sand, compost and wood ash.
You can not plant a white acacia next to fruit trees, its root system will oppress their roots.
Attention! ! ! It is strongly not recommended to plant acacia in children's habitats - near schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, since all parts of the tree are poisonous.
Ways of breeding white acacia
White acacia propagated by seeds, root suckers and root cuttings:
- Reproduction by root suckers is most often used; this is a very simple method. It is necessary in the spring to dig up one of the lateral offspring with the root together, carefully separate it from the mother tree and plant it in the usual way in a new place.
- Reproduction is slightly more difficult with root cuttings. To do this, in the second half of May, it is necessary to dig up the side root, carefully separate it together with small root processes, and plant the root cutting inclined in a loose nutrient soil with the cut upwards so that the cut is at ground level. The cut must be powdered with crushed activated carbon.
- Seed propagation takes a lot of time and labor, so it is used very rarely.
Shelter for the winter
White acacia has a high frost resistance. The tree is able to withstand temperatures up to -35 degrees. Young acacia trees during the first three years of life should be sheltered for the winter.
In late autumn, when the leaves fall off the trees, and there will be a persistent cooling, they start preparing for the winter. It is necessary to pour a layer of fallen leaves or peat on the radical circle, and wrap the wood itself with a sacking and fasten it well. In the spring shelter is removed.
Fight against diseases and pests
Acacia or Robinia is highly resistant to diseases and pests. But from time to time it may be attacked by a skimmer or sawfly. Their presence is recognized by the curvature of the shoots and the slow growth of the tree. To combat these pests apply spraying broth black henbane, hellebore or hemlock spotted. In severe cases, the use of insecticides "Aktar" and "Karbofos."
White Acacia: a brief descriptionAcacia is a woody or shrub plant. Belongs to the legume family. Rhode acacia has about 750-800 species.
Etymologists explain the origin of the name of the tree from the Greek word ake, denoting "thorn, thorn" - in many species of acacia the stipules are modified into thorns.
A huge number of species of wood led to a little confusion. As a result, similar plants belonging to other genera and families began to be called acacias. So, for example, a silk acacia is called a tree from the genus Albizia, a yellow acacia is considered to be the shrub of the genus Caragan.White acacia is divided into several subspecies: weeping, spherical, umbrella-shaped, small-leaved, pyramidal, golden. Each of them has a different degree of frost resistance and resistance to urban conditions. With age, the plants become stronger and more durable, with each passing year endure adverse factors and cold better.
Acacia wood is valuable, used as fuel, in shipbuilding, for the manufacture of doors, parquet. Bark and flowers are used in the composition of drugs. The tree can live up to 50 years.
White acacia belongs to one of the most common ornamental species, so from the description of the plant we proceed to a detailed examination of the characteristics of its planting and cultivation at the dacha.
Choosing healthy acacia seedlings when buying
Particular attention should be paid to the selection of seedlings and the place for planting. From this will largely depend on the development and appearance of the tree in the future, as well as the selection of measures to care for him. Before buying carefully inspect the trunk of an acacia seedling - it should not be too thin with a well-developed root system. It is better to take plants with a closed rhizome, but at the same time make sure that it grows in a container and not planted shortly before the sale. It is necessary to take such seedlings, whose rhizomes look out of the drainage holes of the pot.
Optimum landing times
Experts recommend planting acacia as a seed, and seedlings in the spring. Seedlings are placed in the open ground until the moment when they have buds.
A more undesirable period for planting is autumn. If the acacia is planted at this time, there is a risk that immature roots in damp and cold soil will be affected by rot. Seedlings from the container can also be planted in late summer - early autumn, when there will be no hot days.
Proper planting of white acacia seedlings
It is not necessary to place the seedlings in a too deep planting hole; this can cause the development of root disease. It is necessary to dig the size of the rhizome in breadth and slightly deeper than the length of the root.Saplings with an open root system are pruned so that the top is commensurate with the bottom. You can shorten and rhizome. When planting acacia on clay soil, the bottom of the pit should be drained - a 10-20 cm layer of gravel. If you want to fertilize the soil immediately, then do it with the help of “Nitroammofoski” (60-80 g per well).
A stake is driven into the bottom of the pit, the seedling is placed in the hole, its roots are carefully straightened and covered with earth. The root neck at the same time should be located on the same level with the edges of the pit. Then the seedling is well watered. It is recommended to soil the soil in the near-stem circle with a layer of 5-7 cm. It is better to use peat as mulch.
White acacia refers to fast-growing trees., and if proper planting and proper care were carried out, then, under favorable growing conditions, it is capable of giving an annual increase of 60-80 cm (in the first years to 1.2 m) in height and 20-30 cm in width. Flowering occurs at the age of three, four.
Care for acacia white
If the choice of location and planting were carried out in accordance with all the recommendations, the care of the white acacia is easy - it will be minimal: periodic watering, fertilizing, if necessary, pruning.Fertilize the plant can only three years after planting. Any complex fertilizer, for example, Kemira-Universal, is suitable for this. On one tree will need 100-120 g. Fertilizers during the flowering period and in July, scatter on the soil and lightly with it and sprinkle.
In August, it is advisable to feed the acacia with potassium using potassium sulfate (30 g) or ash (1 cup).
Since white acacia does not like waterlogging, watering will be needed only for young plants. Mature trees are watered only during long dry periods. The rest of the time they will have enough moisture coming along with precipitation.
The soil under the tree will need to periodically weed in order to destroy weeds.
Disease and pest resistanceWhite acacia is characterized by high resistance to diseases and pests. Occasionally, it can be attacked by sucking parasites: scammer and sawfly. As a result of their harmful activity, the plant stops growing, lags behind in development, and curvature of the shoots takes place.
In order to scare away these insects, spraying with decoction of insecticide plants is used: black henbane, hellebore, hemlock spotted. In case of mass lesions, it is necessary to resort to treatment with chemical insecticides: “Aktara”, “Karbofos”, “Rovikurt”, etc.
White locust - excellent honey plantRobinia has a number of useful properties. The main advantage is that it produces delicious and valuable honey from its nectar. Acacia medoproizvoditelnost, according to various sources, is up to 1000 kg per 1 ha, which equates to very high rates.
Acacia honey is valuable in that it is May and dietary. His sweetness is not cloying, it is transparent in color, does not crystallize for a long time and does not turn sour.
We tried to give you all the detailed information about the acacia and its agricultural techniques. As you can see, it is easy to grow this tree, the main thing is to have the desire and make a little effort. The tree looks wonderful when planted alone, as well as when planted in groups, in alleys and hedges.
How to choose a place for landing?
First of all, you should inspect your site to identify a flat glade, well open to the sun's rays and protected from winds.
Low relief contributes stagnation of cold massesthat can badly affect the development of roots of seedlings in the soil and the preparation of the plant for wintering. The high degree of soil moisture in some areas also does not contribute to the normal development of acacia. If you choose a place inaccessible to high winds, you can ensure the integrity of the crown and spring buds.
In addition to climatic factors should be considered and the love of bees to honey plant. In this regard, do not plant acacia in the place where the playground is broken. Do not place it near the fruit trees. The acacia root system is so strong that it can suppress the nearby roots of neighboring plants.
Light - thermal mode
At its core, acacia is considered a southern plant, therefore a large amount of light and solar heat will only benefit her. However, during a drought, young seedlings should be watered. This is required for better rooting of future trees. In the first three years you need to help the plant to prepare for the winter. To do this, it is necessary to warm its roots with the help of a peat layer or fallen leaves. Shelter thickness must be at least 10 centimeters.
Soil for acacia
Lightness and looseness - these are the main characteristics that the ground mixture for acacia planting should possess. If the suburban area is located on a poor, sandy soil, the plant itself will enrich it with nitrogen. With dense clay soil, on which it is supposed to plant young saplings of acacia, it should be well loosened with a shovel a small piece of land. At the same time it is necessary to arrange a drainage of a 15 centimeter layer of rubble. For the soil mixture is taken turf soil and compost, which is mixed with sand. This composition in proportion 6: 4: 4 mixed with pre-selected topsoil.
Acacia planting in autumn
Planting in the fall should be carried out before the onset of seasonal rains and colds. If it is a little late, the tender roots of acacia will not have time to develop normally and can easily rot.
How to plant acacia seeds - step by step instructions
Acacia seeds can be purchased at a specialty store, and you can collect mature beans yourself in late autumn.
Prior to sowing, which should be produced in the third decade of March or in early April, seed should be stored in the refrigerator. Due to the dense skin of the bean, the seeds in such a vault will not germinate. As soon as spring warmth touches the twigs grown plants, and sprouting buds will start to appear, you can prepare acacia beans for sowing. Further actions are presented in stages:
Seeds immersed in boiling water for a few seconds and then move to a bowl filled with cold water. Here they will stay for 12 hours, after which they will be fully prepared for landing in the ground.
The loose nutritious soil mixed with ashes is filled up in the seedling boxes or individual pots.
When they appear in a week - one and a half thin seedlings, they should be provided with proper heat and light content. At this stage, the air temperature should equal to 20-25 ̊ C.
With the onset of the last month of spring, the seedlings are transferred to a greenhouse, and after a while they are planted in open ground. at a distance of 25 centimeters from each other.
After a year, when the acacia seedlings grow to half a meter, they are moved to a permanent place of growth.
Acacia saplings - when and how to plant properly
Planting a young plant material is appropriate in the spring, when the last frosts end. At any suitable time, be it spring or autumn, you can plant seedlings that are in special containers. Indeed, in this case, the root system of young acacias is closed, and, therefore, protected from excessive soil moisture.
Pits follows shallow shallow so that the root system does not flush out. In this case, the root neck should be located slightly above the ground or at the same level with it. The planting mixture is prepared from the soil taken in the pit, mixed with ash, crushed lime or dolomite flour. Nitroammophosphate (70 g) can also be used as an additional fertilizer.
Departure after landing
With the right choice of location and landing method special care for a young plant is not required. As the tree grows, reduce the frequency of watering. After three years, the root system of a flowering tree can already be fed with mineral fertilizers. To stop growing shoots and acceleration of their lignification at the end of the summer should include potash composition under acacia.
While the young tree will grow, around it can be planted as annual plants, and perennials, but not bulbous flowers. After all, the latter need deep soil treatment, which is unacceptable for acacia roots.
Features of growing
This ornamental plant is very unpretentious. Even with minimal care, robinia grows well and does not lose its decorative effect. But special attention is paid to the selection of a place for acacia, which should be:
- well lit
- protected from the north winds
- located on non-flood sites.
Attention! Acacia does not tolerate overmoistening of the soil. Planting trees in low places that are subject to flooding, and in areas with high groundwater can lead to its death.
Acacia is a fairly large tree that requires some space, which should be taken into account when placing it on the site. Avoid shading plants crowns larger trees.
Therefore, under it is not recommended to plant bulbous flowers and plants with long roots. It is undesirable to place Robinia near fruit trees, this will also hinder the development of the plant.
Growing Robinia from seed
Seed method is also used in the cultivation of acacia. To do this, collect ripe seeds in the fall and store them in a cool place until spring. For the best germination on the eve of planting, seeds are first doused with hot water, and then placed for 12 hours in the cold. After that, they are sown in a container and kept warm (preferably with lower heating) under glass or polyethylene until germination. After sprouts appear, the shelter can be removed.
Next, young seedlings are taken care of before landing in the ground. The temperature in the room should be at least 20 degrees Celsius. At about the end of May, already grown up seedlings can be moved to the site.
You can also plant seeds directly into the ground. But they do it already in a later period, when heat is established with a constant daytime temperature of at least 20-22 degrees. Already in the first year, with proper care, seedlings can grow to 0.5-1 m.
To care for white acacia is quite simple. Plant care will consist of:
Greater care requires young trees. They need to be watered more often, regularly remove weeds, slightly loosen the ground around the trunk. For the winter young acacia harbor. To do this, mulching is performed with peat or a layer of fallen leaves, and the trunk is tied with some covering material. Adult acacia costs less attention. It will only need to be watered occasionally during a prolonged drought.
Fertilizers begin to make not immediately, but only from 3-4 years of life of the tree. It is possible for these purposes to use ready-made complex fertilizer or manure, which depends on the preferences of the gardener.
As for pruning, for acacia, this procedure is carried out only for sanitary purposes. In the spring, dried, diseased, damaged branches are removed. Formative pruning for this plant is not performed. Beautiful crown in Robinia is formed without human intervention. If, nevertheless, there is a desire to experiment, then do it better in the spring.
White acacia can be a garden decoration. Summer resident does not need to make a lot of effort, because the plant grows well and blooms well even with a minimum of care.
