The whitefly in the garden (how to get rid of it will be discussed below) often appears. It is a small flying insect. Outwardly, it resembles white miniature moths, which swarm up over plants when disturbed. On the leaves you can find eggs and larvae of insects. The latter look like greyish small grains. During the implementation of the work, the whitefly in the garden brings huge damage to the crops. How to deal with this pest?

General information

Before we talk about how to get rid of the whitefly in the garden, you should get acquainted with this insect closer. In Latin, the name of the pest is: Aleyrodidae. The whitefly is an insect with an incomplete transformation. However, despite this fact, Aleyrodidae has a rather complicated development. There is a small stalk on their eggs. The flat mobile larva of an oval form finds a site suitable for food on a plant. She presses against the surface and presses her legs under herself. The glands secrete wax, which forms around the larva a kind of barrier, tight enough attached to the cortex or leaf.

After the first molt, the larvae noticeably reduce the antennae and legs, and she herself becomes motionless. At the fourth age, a change in body shape is observed. It, being inside the wax capsule, begins to swell. During this period, the larva stops feeding. In her body there is a restructuring of the entire organization, as in a doll. Thus, wings, antennae, long legs are laid, organs of an adult individual are formed.

Before you figure out how to get rid of the whitefly in the garden, it should be said that for the insect begonia, fuchsia, passionflower, balsam, lanthanum, and pelargonium are considered favorite plants. If there are no favorite crops, then the pest attacks most of the famous indoor plants. In greenhouse conditions, whitefly is often found on cucumbers. The insect lives also in other cultures. There is also a whitefly on tomatoes. In a greenhouse, an insect can cause great damage to plantings. In open areas, it often damages many herbaceous plants. Favorite places are shaded. Often there is a whitefly on strawberries.

additional information

Adult insects have a pale yellowish color, about 1.3 mm long. The whitefly has two pairs of wings, which are covered with wax pollen. Besides the fact that the insect can fly, it also jumps well. In the spring, the female lays miniature eggs on the lower part of the leaves. In place of masonry remains bloom white. The larvae pull the juice from the leaves. The whitefly on strawberries is massively observed. "How to deal with this insect?" - The main question for many gardeners. After all, the pest almost completely destroys the leaves. In the areas of damage you can see subtle, small spots of yellowish hue. Having reached the third age, the larvae turn into puparia. Soon from them adult individuals take off. During the summer, the insect develops in three or four generations.

Signs of defeat

As mentioned above, insects settle on the underside of the leaf. On the parts of the plant, located below, you can see a brilliant bloom (pad, or honeydew). These are insect excrements. Soot fungi subsequently develop on this raid. Because of this, the surface of the leaves is covered first with white bloom, and then turns black. It is the soot fungi that can harm the plant more than the whitefly. How to destroy a pest? What are the ways?

Whitefly: fighting it with chemicals

The biggest problem is the insect in dry weather. How to get rid of the whitefly in the garden, using chemicals? Today in the gardening shops presented a fairly wide range of tools. All drugs are produced by fairly well-known manufacturers, have instructions with recommendations for use and precautions. Normally, chemicals must be diluted in water immediately prior to use. The manufacturer specifies the optimal ratio in the instructions. For many gardeners, one of the main problems is the whitefly in the garden. How to get rid of an insect, every summer resident should know.

The method of processing crops

The option of applying the drug will depend on the type of culture and its vegetative stage. Urgent measures against the insect should be taken if it is noticed on the seedlings, since there can be a great damage to the plantings if the whitefly starts to spread in large quantities in the garden. How to get rid of pests on seedlings? The whole terrestrial part of the plant should be treated with the prepared solution. Concentration can be increased if necessary, if this does not prohibit the instruction. But, as a rule, there is nothing to worry about, since the chemical component will disintegrate by the time the ovary is formed. It should be said that insect suffers enough damage to flowers. If cutting of ornamental plants is not planned, the use of insecticides is not limited. We must remember that the cut and brought into the house flowers can cause infection and home cultures.

Pest Control

A lot of trouble brings the whitefly. The fight against it is made with such popular drugs:

  • Means "Aktellik". Available in ampoules. For one liter of water take 1 pc. The treatment is carried out in the period of the appearance of the insect. Two liters of solution is enough for 10 m 2. It is carried out no more than four treatments. The effect can be expected on the third day.
  • The drug "Verticillin F". The product is diluted at the rate of 25 ml per liter of water. Treatment is carried out by spraying twice. The interval between them is 7 or 10 days.
  • Means "Confidor". Consumption of the drug - per 1 liter of water 0.1 ml. Spray once.
  • The drug "Pegasus". Diluted in a ratio of 2 ml of product per liter of water. Twice spraying is carried out with a break of 7-10 days.
  • Means "Phosbecid". The product is diluted in a ratio of 5 ml of the drug to 5 liters of water.
  • To reduce the amount of damage on the squash, cucumbers and zucchini can, treating the plants every 10 days means “Bud”. 10 grams of the drug is diluted in 10 liters.
  • With the mass appearance of the insect, the drug "Rovikurt" is recommended. 10 liters of water need 10 grams of funds.

Many gardeners are interested in whether it is possible to eliminate an insect such as the whitefly without chemicals. Folk methods of struggle, I must say, are very common among experienced gardeners. This is what gardeners advise: glue traps can be used to catch adults. They are pieces of hardboard or plywood, painted in white or yellow. After drying, the surfaces are lubricated with castor oil, honey with rosin or petroleum jelly. Pests are attracted to the bright color (better than yellow), they sit on the bait and just stick. After a lot of insects accumulate on the plywood, it is rubbed and soaked again. Effective and glue traps designed for flies.

Alternative measures

The most difficult, as practice shows, to eliminate whitefly in the greenhouse. Chemicals are undesirable. This is due to the fact that aggressive substances accumulate in the soil, where it is almost impossible to remove them. In this case, it is better to use alternative methods. Mechanical removal is considered the most harmless. Insects can be knocked from the ground part of the plant with a stream of water. After this, it is necessary to break through the soil near the stem.

Spraying plants with garlic tincture is also effective. The whitefly will be scared away by a sharp smell, and she will fly to look for a more attractive place. To prepare the infusion, you need to take crushed cloves (about 150-170 grams) and pour a liter of water. Insist should be within five days in a tightly closed container. For processing will be enough 6 grams. Divorced in a liter of water. An excellent remedy is considered a thick solution with soap. They can handle strawberries. This tool does not pose a danger to humans, and the method of its application does not depend on the vegetative stage of the plant. To protect the tomatoes fit a weak solution of lime or copper sulfate. Processing leaves reliably protect them from insect invasion.

Use of parasites

There is another alternative method for eliminating whitefly. It provides for the use of enkarzii - parasitic insect. It can be ordered in biolaboratories and vegetable farms. This parasitic insect very effectively eliminates the whitefly. At the same time, encarzia has no negative effect on plants. After the pest is destroyed, the parasite simply disappears. In the event of a re-invasion will have to run the enkarzia again

Preventive actions

As experienced gardeners say, the appearance of a pest can be prevented. In late autumn, it is recommended to dig a plot, destroying weeds and removing all the tops. Do not place the compost pile directly on the plot. This is due to the fact that it will be a very attractive place for the wintering of the whitefly and other pests. As a rule, insects appear where high humidity is combined with high temperature, where there is not enough good ventilation, and the plants are located very close to each other. That is why, first of all, plantings must provide optimal conditions. As a prevention, you can also use drugs that strengthen plants.

Greenhouse or hothouse whitefly

The whitefly in the greenhouse appears more often, as for her in this place the most comfortable climate. A special kind of greenhouse whitefly that lives well in the greenhouse conditions lives and breeds in such conditions. Therefore, the favorite food for them are flower and indoor plants, but it does not hesitate and vegetable crops. The difficulty of dealing with it in these conditions is its rapid reproduction of up to 15 generations with a full developmental phase of 25 days. Here there are inhabitants of different stages, which requires a special universal approach to their extermination.

Hothouse whitefly: methods of struggle

The first method is prevention, prevention of pests in the room. This requires standard work with the land in the greenhouse and in the surrounding area, which is held annually in the offseason. Namely, digging the ground, chemical treatment of pests, removing old plants, disinfecting the greenhouse space, installing a fine mesh on the vent and windows.

Mechanical method

The method consists in the partial removal of insects from the affected space. This is expressed in the mechanical assembly of adults in the cool morning hours, when they are not too mobile. This can be done with a small hand vacuum. There is also a version that the butterflies are attracted to the yellow flowers of plants, hence the use of sticky flycatchers of this color.

The third method is also based on their habits. Like any mole, they tend to fly to a lit light at night. Here it is worthwhile to leave for the night a lamp with a heating light, and the butterflies will fly on a burning fire, where they will die.

Radical chemical effects are when neglected cases of infection. It offers a large range of chemicals, but the most effective can be considered a proven weapon - "Karbofos."

Fight with whitefly on cabbage

Whitefly on a cabbage starts up most often of a certain type. The description of this subspecies is similar to the other individuals described above, but it is worth noting certain inherent features. So, insects of all stages of its development go to wintering, which contributes to their rapid flourishing in the next season. It is distributed in European Russia, the western regions of Europe, individual insect colonies spread in the Primorsky and Far Eastern regions.

Externally, the defeat looks like leaf twisting, loss of a healthy appearance. Whiteflies are carriers of viral diseases such as jaundice, chlorosis, and other viruses that also infect the plant.

Ways of dealing with whitefly on cabbage

Whitefly does a lot of damage. How to get rid? The first is harvesting seed before planting cabbage. Since the insect develops more successfully on weeds, and with the appearance of succulent foliage in cabbage, they gradually move to it, the damage mainly occurs in late summer and early autumn. Accordingly, weeding the territory also contributes to the destruction of the pest.

Another measure will be a routine inspection of the plant, which will help identify the extent of the lesion and apply another proven folk method of cleaning leaves. They just need to be gently washed with clean water or soapy water (green potassium soap), after which the insects will be washed off onto the ground, which can be loosened beforehand and fertilized with peat or sprinkled with ashes. Whiteflies will not withstand the alkaline environment created.

The question of how to deal with whiteflies will be answered by modern chemistry, which can offer drugs that differ in time of action, such as Actellic, Verticillin J and Pegasus, and their multiplicity of application cannfidor, Mospilan, Fufanon , a large margin on the treatment area - "Phosbecid". A chemical remedy for whitefly can quickly and effectively get rid of this problem.

Get rid of the whitefly on tomatoes

The whitefly on tomatoes most often starts in a greenhouse. They manifest themselves, as in other cases, the deterioration of the plant's appearance, yellowing and twisting of the leaves, uneven ripening of the crop, the inside of the fruit begins to turn white or has areas painted white. And, of course, determined by the visual method by the presence of all stages of development of the insect on the affected plant.

Whitefly on tomatoes: ways to fight

We will understand what a tomato whitefly is, how to get rid of it with the use of folk remedies, unnamed above. Planting on the edges of the greenhouse for one plant of tobacco - it quickly attracts the insect with its smell. After tomatoes are treated with chemical agents to combat them. The fragrance can also deter pest. So, it is advantageous to use smells that do not tolerate all types of moths, such as lavender and any moth tablets. Based on this thesis, fumigating the room can also lead to a positive effect. This process is carried out two or more times a year away from the living quarters, as sulfur, sulfur candles, and special smoke bombs are used here. This type of treatment is detrimental for adults, pupae and larvae, a person can also get poisoned. Therefore, it is necessary to take all precautions.

Precaution when working with chemistry

Caution does not interfere with the use of fumigators in greenhouses. They are available in the form of plates and liquid, as well as against mosquitoes. It is worth highlighting the name of such a drug "ARGUS". Whiteflies can not stand the smell, but also for humans and animals, it remains dangerous to health. They can be poisoned.

The rules of caution should be observed when using chemicals that are the same poison for a person as for an insect. The treatment process should take place in dry, windless weather. The plant requires special attention. Mandatory shade to avoid burns on the surface of the green mass. Each time it is desirable to change the chemical when re-processing, since during the summer period many generations of whitefly appear, they manage to develop immunity to the first preparation. It is necessary to take into account the main stage of development of individuals and select the right drug for them. In hothouses it is necessary to apply less aggressive chemical agents, due to the accumulation in the soil of harmful substances that the plant absorbs.

Natural methods of influence on the whitefly population

The natural way to kill whitefly is the safest and most environmentally friendly. Its main argument is the existence of predators that feed on this species of insects. Against the pest, predatory, parasitic entomophages, enkarsia, are used.

How to deal with whiteflies, small rider will answer enkarsia. It is used mainly for prevention, one insect can overpower an area of one square meter. For tomatoes enough from five to ten individuals per square meter. In the case of severe damage, the number of predators can be increased. The female enkartia lays its larvae in the larva of its whitefly one by one per individual. She alone is able to produce about fifty eggs. After settling, a new insect predator comes out, which immediately begins to hunt insects.

This predator can be purchased in special stores, its eggs are usually packed in 60 or 100 pieces. What is enough for cleaning the entire affected area. This insect prefers a greenhouse variety of whitefly. Against other species, there are corresponding types of riders. Natural insect enemies are often colonized at the beginning and during the main season.

All due to the fact that the enkarsias try to keep the balance of the number of the pest, leaving some of them to feed their offspring, the next generation comes in about the same way. Therefore, they are used mainly in preventive measures and in the case when the degree of injury is still small.

whitefly. Methods of struggle were considered on

Excellent folk remedy for whitefly can be easily found. Particularly stand out tincture of various plants. The recipes for such drugs include garlic, yarrow, tobacco, and the most common dandelion in the garden. All of them are soaked in hot water and infused for a week. Next, the liquid is sprayed the affected areas.

Now you know how to deal with whiteflies. As you can see, there are a lot of ways. The cunning enemy of summer residents is the whitefly. The control methods discussed in the article will allow you to successfully deal with this pest.

Fighting a flying insect pest

Damage to indoor and garden flowers is often caused by a small butterfly - the whitefly. Its length is only 1.5-3 mm, the body and wings are white, covered with powdery pollen. The adult whitefly, as well as its voracious larvae, feeds on the sap of the plants and this causes great harm to them.

Plants need to be treated several times with soap and insecticide. To deal with the whitefly on tomatoes well and means that contain pyrethrum or pyrimiphosmethyl. On cucumbers (pictured) and zucchini there will be less whitefly if every 10 days you spray them with Bud - 10 grams per 10 liters of water. Well from this scourge help and such modern preparations as:

  1. Spark - 1 pc per 10 liters of water,
  2. Citzkor - 1.5 ml per 10 liters of water.

Such measures should be applied regularly, until complete destruction. The consumption of drugs will be 10 liters per 100 m2 of vegetable garden. Spraying the beds from whitefly should be done on a dry and windless day. If you spray tomatoes, then it is advisable to do it in the late afternoon, because after the procedure, burns may occur on the tomatoes.

Poisonous chemical elements accumulate in the soil, and it is difficult to remove them later. Starting the fight against insects, consider their life cycle and use appropriate preparations for it. Have a good harvest.

Whitefly - pest description

The whitefly is a small flying insect, vaguely resembling a mole. Shaking up the foliage of a vegetable plant and a small white cloud will fly off of it - these are these “harmful” insects. They lay their testicles on the reverse side of the foliage. And on plants you can usually notice droplets of white liquid - these are waste products of the whitefly.

The appearance of black spots on the foliage suggests that in parallel with this “harmful” insect a fungus appeared on the plant. How to get rid of ants - read here.

Signs of defeat

The main signs that a whitefly has started on the vegetables in the garden - on the back of the leaves you can find small capsules in which the larvae of this pest develop. They resemble yellow scales.

White fly

Affected foliage turns yellow with time, begins to dry and falls. In the beds, these pests make laying eggs only in the spring, but in the heated greenhouse the whitefly can reproduce year-round. Usually the larva "hatch" in 7 - 8 days.

It is easy to notice the signs of plant damage in the garden of the whitefly - the affected foliage turns yellow and quickly falls.

And if you do not start the fight against this "harmful" bug in a timely manner, then they quickly begin to multiply. And then the vegetables die. A crop of vegetables will be much less.

When the larvae are transformed into nymphs, they become more resistant to chemicals, so it is useless to fight them. Nymphs eventually turn into adult insects. And the breeding cycle starts over.

The development cycle of the whitefly from eggs to adults lasts about a month. One female in her life is able to lay up to 125 - 130 eggs. The lifetime of such an individual is not more than 30 days. And in heated premises where vegetables grow, such a pest can grow 13 to 15 generations in a year.

Prevention

The appearance of these "harmful" bugs can be prevented. After the crop is fully harvested in the garden, you should harvest all the tops, remove weeds and carefully dig up the plot for the winter.

The compost pile should not be done on the plot, since it is there that the pests love to hide from the frost for the winter. These "harmful" bugs settle in those beds where it is too humid and the ambient temperature is high.

And there is no draft between the plants, and the vegetables themselves are planted too close to each other. Therefore, plants should be planted at a sufficient distance, as well as properly care for them. Another preventive measure is to spray or fertilize plants with preparations that strengthen the vegetables.

External signs of infection

If you notice that a small white butterfly, similar to the moth, flies next to the plant, then it is worth checking out. So, you can just shake up the bush as much as possible. In the event that there are whiteflies on it, they will immediately take off.

There are also other signs of infection:

  1. On the wrong side of the foliage you can see the larvae of this pest. They look like numerous translucent scales.
  2. The appearance on the surface of the plant shiny sticky honeydew. This substance released by insects is a waste (like that of aphids).
  3. Dark spots are formed on the surface of the plant. This is due to the appearance of soot fungus, which constantly settles on honeydew.
  4. The growth of the affected plant slows down, the foliage turns yellow and begins to curl.

Causes of whitefly

As a rule, the whitefly appears only in the warm season under certain climatic conditions. So, it should be very warm and damp. This is due to the fact that this pest feels great in a humid and warm environment. However, if the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, the whitefly dies, but the eggs can wait for a long time until the temperature and humidity are high again.

There is also a place where this insect simply loves to live all year round, namely, in the greenhouse or greenhouse. Most of all, she likes those in which there is no good ventilation, and the plants are planted very often. In this regard, as a preventive measure, the whitefly can be made less comfortable by eliminating as many of the favorable conditions as possible to its existence. For example:

  • plants should not be planted close to each other,
  • it is necessary that the room is regularly and well ventilated,
  • if the weather is wet, then spraying is better to postpone,
  • make the plants more robust, fertilizing them in time and using biostimulants, for example: domozvet, amulet, epin and so on.

How to use traps

Glue traps can save you from pests. They are hung directly above the plants. There are many companies that produce them, for example: "Pheromone", "ARGUS", "Bona Forte" and so on. The trap itself is a small piece of cardboard or plastic, on the surface of which a non-drying adhesive is applied. It is colorless and odorless and is also completely non-toxic.

Saturated yellow color attracts this kind of pests, and they stick to the traps even with the slightest contact. However, not only the whitefly can fall into this trap, it can also rid itself of aphids, thrips, miner flies, mushroom mosquitoes, and also from spider mites.

These traps can be easily done with your own hands. To do this you need a thick cardboard, which you need to cut into not very large rectangles and paint in rich yellow color. After that, castor oil, petrolatum or a mixture of rosin and honey should be applied to their surface. Cardboard can be replaced with hardboard or plywood.

The holder for traps can be made of metal, wood or plastic. Attached traps should be placed directly above the affected plant. In the purchase of traps in the kit, as a rule, there is a thin wire, with the help of which a piece of cardboard is fixed above the plant. If this pest was seen in the greenhouse, then this kind of trap should be hung out 1 piece per 10 square meters. Under room conditions, one trap is hung on each window.

Such traps can easily replace special tapes with a sticky surface from flies, they should also be hung one piece over each window sill.

How to use the fumigator

To a significant extent, the whitefly population is capable of reducing the fumigator (both with the plates and with the squeezing fluid), which is designed to fight flies or mosquitoes. Tightly close the doors and windows and turn on the fumigator, placing it in close proximity to infected plants. In this case, both people and pets need to be removed from the room, since you can get poisoned.

Washing the leaves with water

The transformation of larvae into adult insects occurs within 7 days. Up to this point, they, being on the seamy side of the leaflet, actively suck the juice out of it. In order to reduce the number of pests, it is necessary to destroy as many larvae as possible. Therefore, once a week it is necessary to thoroughly wipe each leaf with a moistened soft sponge. It is recommended for this impose a soap solution. Try to remove all existing larvae from the leaflets. After some time, the pests will be completely destroyed.

However, this method is applicable only in the case of not very large amounts of vegetation. So, for example, in bulk plantings, greenhouses, greenhouses, this method is inefficient and labor-intensive.

Lowering the air temperature to 10 degrees

If the temperature is lowered to 10 degrees or less, then the adults die, but a certain number of larvae and eggs remain alive and simply hibernate. After increasing the temperature of more than 15 degrees, they come to life and continue their normal activities.

Other folk remedies are different solutions, which you should either water the affected plant or spray it.

Soap solution

To prepare the solution suitable household or tar soap. It should be crushed with a grater. The soap is dissolved in water in a ratio of 1: 6. The resulting liquid must be well whipped to form a stable foam, and then, using a sponge, put it on the surface of the plant. The green parts of the plant can simply be sprayed with the resulting solution, while no need to whisk it. The surface layer of the soil must also be lightly sprayed.

In some cases, all insects will be destroyed after the first treatment. However, in most cases a new treatment will be required after 7 days.

Garlic infusion

For a liter of clean water, you will need 2 medium sized garlic cloves (6 grams). All mix, cover and remove the container in a dark place. After 24 hours, the infusion is filtered and used for spraying. As a rule, 2 or 3 treatments are enough, there should be a break of 1 week between them.

Tobacco Infusion

To prepare the infusion, you need to buy cigarettes (for example, "I will accept"). Gut tobacco from cigarettes and pour a liter of not very hot water into it. Remove the mixture in a dark place, and after 5 days the infusion will be ready for use. It must be filtered and applied for spraying. The treatment is carried out once every three days, until the whitefly disappears completely.

Dandelion infusion

To prepare you will need 40 grams of dandelion leaves and the same number of roots of this plant. They are cut into pieces, and then mixed with a liter of water. After 3 or 4 days the infusion will be ready. After straining it is used for spraying the plants. Processing is repeated a couple of times, and the interval between them should be a week.

Chemicals in the fight against whitefly

If the infection is strong or folk remedies have proved ineffective, you need to use special chemicals.

The most effective means in the fight against such pests is the systemic drug Aktara. It is distinguished by its long exposure. So, he is able to provide protection for a period of 3 to 5 weeks. The diluted solution just needs to be watered at the root. The thiamethoxam contained in the preparation enters the plant sap and contributes to the death of the pests, both adult individuals and larvae. As a result, absolutely all the whiteflies die. If the infection is very serious, then, together with irrigation, experts advise also to spray the plant with the same solution. In this case, the treatment must be repeated three times at weekly intervals.

Recommendation. To destroy the whitefly 100 percent after the first treatment, it is necessary instead of 10 liters of water for one sachet (1.4 grams) of the substance to use 2 or 3 liters. A more concentrated mixture does not harm the plant, even if it falls on the foliage. She needs to water the plant at the root and the entire pest population will perish.

This is a very effective drug that has both systemic and contact effects. After just 90 minutes after treatment (spraying and watering), the whitefly begins to die. In many cases, only 1 treatment is enough to destroy the entire population.

The main active ingredient of this drug is imidacloprid. It is in various concentrations included in such chemicals as: Copfidor, Gaucho, Commander, Applaud, Admir, Provado, Marathon. If possible, they can be replaced by each other.

Agravertin (Akarin)

This tool is used to destroy a huge number of pests, for example, whitefly, spider mites, and also several types of gall nematodes. They need to spray the plant. To do this, the leaves are thoroughly wetted and it is recommended to try to get on a harmful insect (for example, you can spray the drug in a cloud of whitefly).

This tool is insecticaric, different contact-intestinal effects. This means that it can act on an insect both by direct contact with it, and by penetration with food.

Spark (bio, gold, double effect)

Available in the form of water-soluble tablets, long-lasting sticks, liquids in ampoules, and also as a powder. Prepare the solution to water the plant. After a short time, the active substances of the drug are in plant tissues and are there for up to 25 days. In most cases, one treatment is enough to get rid of whitefly.

This insecticoacaricide is able to destroy almost all known types of harmful insects. To completely get rid of the whitefly, you will need to carry out 1 or 2 treatments.

This tool except insects can kill ticks. Whitefly it will destroy easily. But it is important to know that this tool is very toxic (class 2) and has a not very pleasant smell.

Also in the fight against this pest can be used: Rovikurt, Fufanon, Alatar, Zeta, Inta-Vir, Top-star.

How to know the whitefly

Recognizing the whitefly is not so difficult. You may be caught by a white midge flying past you or sitting on flowers. In this case, you should immediately check all the plants under the leaves for its distribution. And sooner or later you will find a whole swarm of small midges sitting in your flower beds.

Insect sizes are very small - from 1.5 to 2 mm, sometimes reaching 3 mm. They look like small moliform insects, have four wings with a whitish bloom.

In houses and gardens appear mainly in the warm season, in wet weather. For them, the high air temperature of about +30 ° C is very important, and if the temperature drops below +10 ° C, all the vital processes of the whitefly stop, only the life of the larvae continues.

In the spring, when the temperature is still low, insects feel great in greenhouses and greenhouses, especially if their ventilation is very weak and the plants are planted close to each other. These are ideal conditions for the whitefly.

  • tobacco, or cotton whitefly (Benisia tabaci G.) - came to us from Southeast Asia, harms vegetable, decorative, technical crops and prefers an air temperature of + 32–35 ° C,
  • greenhouse or greenhouse whitefly (Tricleurodes vaporariorum W.) - prefers greenhouses, greenhouses and houses. Originally from South America, in warm weather it spreads with the wind,
  • citrus whitefly (Dialeurodes citri A.) - came to us from South Asia and prefers citrus and home plants,
  • cabbage (Aleurodes brassicae) - likes to feast on vegetables, in particular cabbage, and amazes her in late summer, early autumn,
  • strawberry (Aleurodes fragariae) - harms many vegetable crops, including strawberries.

Whitefly Harm

Whiteflies and their larvae feed on the juices of the plants on which they live, so it is important to notice this pest in time. They are also dangerous with their rapid reproduction - only three weeks are needed from the postponing of the larva to its transformation into an adult.

The greatest danger to plants is insect larvae,

And if this fungus appeared, then the plant can be saved very difficult, and sometimes impossible. It directly affects the process of photosynthesis, and fungicides only suspend its action and can not completely destroy. This midge is also a carrier of plant pathogens, such as chlorosis, leaf curl and many other phytopathogenic viruses.

The most dangerous is the whitefly for such groups of plants:

1. From room prefers:

  • orchids,
  • balsam,
  • geranium,
  • begonia
  • fuchsia
2. Greenhouse:
  • cucumbers,
  • tomatoes,
  • eggplants,
  • pepper,
  • cabbage,
  • beans.
3. Other vegetable and garden crops:
  • potatoes,
  • strawberries
  • Strawberry,
  • melons,
  • apple trees
  • pears

Mechanical methods

One of the most well-known methods of catching adults is to hang yellow oilcloth-leaf traps over the plants, smeared with glue, which lure the midges with their appearance. You can also collect them by hand or wash them with soap and water from the leaves if the area is small, for example, on a home flower.

Fighting folk remedies

This insect is quite well adapted to different methods of struggle, because there are few popular methods. In the early stages of infection, you can try:

  • Medicinal dandelion, 50 g of the roots and 50 g of green leaves of which need to be crushed, pour 1 l of water and insist 3-5 hours. Before spraying, strain and process 1 time in 7-14 days.
  • infusion of garlic, which must be infused for at least four days. To do this, 100 g of finely chopped garlic pour 1 liter of water and insist. Before spraying, 5 g of this concentrated infusion is diluted with another liter of water and we process it.
  • leaf treatment with soap solution using household or tar soap. Rub the soap, whisk with water until foam and carefully wipe the leaves with this mixture.

Where does the whitefly appear? How to detect a pest

The whitefly appears in places where elevated temperature and humidity, insufficient ventilation and plants growing in cramped conditions: in greenhouses, greenhouses, greenhouses, city apartments and private houses. Less commonly, the whitefly rides in open space - butterflies are hampered by the wind and a large number of predators who want to feed on them.

Whitefly (lat Aleurodidae, English Whitefly) - a small white butterfly with a size of up to 1.5 mm. The body of the butterfly is yellow, and the wings are covered with white pollen. Butterflies can be found on the leaves of damaged plants, from the outside and inside of the leaves. If the plant to shake harder, butterflies fly apart.

The whitefly is many-sided — it can appear on cucumbers, and then switch to tomatoes, sweet peppers, beans, lettuce, and flower plants.

Whitefly larvae (English Whitefly larvae) cause major damage to plants, sucking the leaves from the leaves like aphids. Whitefly larvae can be found on the back of the leaves - they are sedentary, pale green, can be covered with a waxy coating. Wax coating appears when the larvae are ready to turn into butterflies - at this time they are not afraid of pesticides and insecticides.

The larvae that can move through the leaves are called hover larvae. At this stage of development, the whitefly larvae can migrate from branch to branch, choosing the most succulent leaves. When feeding on the larvae, they secrete a sticky, sugary liquid that ants and black fungi love. Growing mushrooms cover the surface of leaves with black bloom, which does not let the sunlight through. The plant, already weakened by the loss of juices, is deprived of the possibility of a normal course of photosynthesis. No photosynthesis - no harvest, and with severe damage the leaves turn yellow and fall off.

Chemical and biological methods of whitefly control

The combination of chemical and biological attack on whitefly helps to reduce the number of pests to a minimum, but you should not flatter yourself. Only a comprehensive, regular treatment, combined with prevention will help get rid of the whitefly forever.

The following drugs are recommended for chemical control of whitefly: Zeta, Rovikurt, INTA-VIR, Fufanol and even Karbofos. Also well help drugs on the basis of Aversectin (avermectin), for example, Fitoverm in a reinforced dosage, about 10 ml per 1 liter of water. FitoVerm is good because it kills whitefly on the spot, and berries can be eaten, having washed well with water. The remaining drugs should be used according to the instructions.

Running case Whitefly occupied a plant. Folk remedies will not help

By the way, to prolong the effect of the above preparations, you can add a little soap, dishwashing detergent or shampoo to the solution. Soap and its analogs help the solution better adhere to the leaves.

Poisonous preparations against whitefly such as Aktelik, Aktara, Konfidor, Komandor, Tanrek should be used only outdoors, or with the observance of all precautions, otherwise with a whitefly you harm your health by inhaling chemistry.

Popular methods of dealing with whitefly (biological)

Biological methods of dealing with whitefly consist of spraying plants with soapy water and herbal preparations: infusions of dandelion, garlic, tobacco, yarrow, etc.

Soap solution used for spraying plants and applying soap suds on leaves affected by whitefly. Tar grinded soap is dissolved in water in a ratio of 1: 6 (100 grams of soap per 600 ml of water). Without foaming the solution, the soap solution can be used for spraying, and the beaten foam is applied with a brush or sponge on the reverse side of the leaves.

Soap well helps from the whitefly, often one procedure is enough for the complete disappearance of pests. Repeat treatment with soapy water can be after 7-10 days, so as not to burn the leaves.

Garlic infusion It helps well with a small amount of whitefly. To prepare the infusion of garlic on a grate rub 2-3 cloves of garlic and pour a liter of water, insist in the dark for 24 hours, filter and start spraying the plants. It is enough two or three treatments with garlic to reduce the number of whitefly.

Infusion of yarrow also effective for fighting whitefly: 100 grams of fresh yarrow grass, pour with a liter of warm water, leave for a couple of days, squeeze and strain. Spray the plants once a week, two or three times in a row.

Tobacco Infusion helps to destroy a small amount of whitefly. To prepare tobacco from a pack of strong cigarettes, they are crushed and poured with a liter of water, with a temperature of + 60-80 ° C, and infused in a dark place during the week. Then the tobacco infusion must be drained and sprayed on the plants affected by the whitefly at intervals of 3 days until the parasites disappear completely.

Dandelion infusion helps in the initial stage of whitefly settling. Prepare an infusion of 50 grams of rhizomes and leaves of dandelion (50 grams each), the raw materials are crushed and filled with a liter of warm water, and then infused in a dark place for 5 days. Ready infusion filter and spray the plants twice with a week break.
