General information

Pickling cabbage seedlings: do we need it

The substrate in the container is watered in advance, one day or one day before the pick, in order to be wet at the time of landing. Picks seedlings need to be carried out quickly, so that the seedlings did not have time to lose the turgor (not faded), then they will easily take root. Everything should be at hand: containers filled with a wet substrate, seedlings watered in advance and count, with which the seedlings are selected and planted.Any container (boxes, ceramic and plastic pots, paper, plastic cups), in which they are transplanted, is called container.

For the formation of additional roots. Yes that there "is possible", - "it is necessary". This is one of the required indications when diving tomatoes. You can dig up to cotyledon leaves. If you have a sprout turned out too stretched out - between the cotyledon leaves and the rosette of real leaves are more than 2 - 3 cm, then you can safely deepen to the first true leaves. Just keep in mind that this sprout requires a high cup in order to take root well and not break in the wind. From above on the compacted soil around the sprout we pour a little water and let it stand. At this time, on the sticker, we write the name of the variety, or at least denote that the cabbage is early, so as not to confuse. We glue the sticker and put the settled seedlings on the window sill in a cooler place than above the radiator.

Box for carrying cups of seedlings from place to place. It may not be useful if you organize work in some other way. GoThere is only one important “BUT”: we need a lot of free space for placing cups with pickled seedlings, which most likely will not be found in rooms in sufficient quantities, so we will have to equip the shelving on the glazed loggia. So: the loggia should be warm enough so that at night the temperature does not fall below +5 - + 7 ° C. Go

How to plant plants correctly

With this method of growing cabbage sown immediately in the ground at a permanent place. Seeds are sown at a depth of 2 cm, seeding rate 1.2-2.0 g per 10 m2. In the phase of the three leaves do the first thinning and culling. At the age of 5-6 leaves - the final, leaving a distance of 35-70 cm between plants in a row, depending on the variety. Plant care is the same as in the rassadnom method of growing. When establishing cloudy weather, the seedlings on the window sills should be highlighted. I use for this purpose household fluorescent lamps with a length of 120 cm (window opening size is 130 cm, but if the windows are large, then lamps of various lengths can be combined with each other). The distance from the lamp to the plants is 15 cm. I highlight 12 hours from 7 am to 7 pm. For the convenience of monitoring on / off lamps using a programmable timer. These devices are mechanical and electronic. You can buy them in electronics stores and garden centers.

35–45 days, mid-seasonHumus - 45, turfy ground - 50, sand - 5,No, of course, dive, and everything will be fine. The poor sanctification is affected by dry soil and poor soil, but not frequent shoots.

Carry out a pick in the following order:

Containers are selected to meet the requirements of the nutrition area of each culture. The tomato dive algorithm is standard: make a hole in a cup, insert a sprout, pour some water, bury and compact. Be sure to sign varieties, because some of them are stunted, while others are tall, requiring garters to support later. Low-growing and tall varieties must necessarily be planted on different beds, otherwise the latter will shade and close the first.

Small, weak or damaged shoots are thrown away.Rack Go

It is important! Seedlings stop watering the day before the dive, so that when we get the shoots from the tank, do not damage their rootsThis method of growing cabbage is most suitable for the southern regions, in central Russia, as a rule, is not used.Cabbage, like no other seedlings, loves to "walk." If you grow seedlings in an apartment almost to the very disembarkation, you must have a balcony at your disposal. As soon as the weather permits, at least for a few hours, try to bring plants to it at any age. Several of these, even short walks, will already benefit. If the balcony is not glazed, then do not risk sowing cabbage very early, and build on the balcony of the film a kind of greenhouse. The size of the greenhouse should be such as to accommodate freely all the seedlings in case of setting adverse weather when the plants grow.Late ripening 30-35 days.

You can take in the same amount of turf soil, humus or compost and peat with the addition of sand in the amount of 5-6%.

Picking procedure

Cabbage needs coolness; at home, few people manage to grow normal cabbage seedlings. It is better to grow in a greenhouse, and then sit in the garden. Or immediately in the ground under the bottle cut and covering

At first, a dip is made in the container soil (if the substrate is sufficiently wet, the cavity will keep its shape well, if not, its walls will crumble).

. If the seedlings dive into containers, then their diameter in the upper part should be 8 cm. (By the way, the matching of ceramic and plastic pots, commercially available, is determined by the diameter of their upper part). For normal growth and development of seedlings, it is enough that the depth of the container is 12-15 cm.

A pick is the transfer of seedlings (plants grown from seeds) to another place (greenhouses, greenhouses) or another container (boxes, pots, cups) in order to expand their food area.

We do the same thing with the late cabbage as with the early cabbage. With the only difference that the later mostly appeared only 1.5 - 2 true leaves. By “1.5”, I mean that the second one just got stuck. We try to chooseStickers or price tags. On them we will write the name of the variety and stick it to the cup, so that later there will be no regrading.

I live in a private house. On the plot there is a homemade greenhouse, covered with a polycarbonate 6 mm thick. In sunny weather in spring, as soon as the temperature in the greenhouse becomes 10 ° C during the day, I take the cabbage seedlings there in a closed cardboard box, since it is still quite cold outside.

Cabbage can be grown in a seedling way (with or without a pick) and non-seedling. For central Russia, a rassadny method is mainly used. The seeds of early varieties of cabbage are sown on seedlings from March 15 to March 25. To extend the period of receipt of early cabbage, it is sown with an interval of 3-4 days. Mid-season and late varieties start sowing around April 10th. Medium and late varieties can be sown on seedlings directly into the ground under the film on April 20-25.

Then the plant, intended for picking, is taken by the stem below the leaves with the thumb and forefinger of the left hand, dug with a stake, transferred to the prepared indentation and lowered into it to such a depth that the cotyledon leaves are 0.4-0.6 cm above the surface of the substrate. While supporting the seedling with the left hand, the right one at this time carefully pour the ground in until the recess is filled. Then the left hand is released and the substrate is slightly compacted around the stem of the seedling with the index fingers of both hands. After planting, the surface of the substrate is leveled and the thumbs of both hands gently seal it along the edge of the container.

Containers are easy to make from paper or polyethylene. The main thing is that there are holes in their bottom through which excess moisture leaves or, on the contrary, goes to the plant roots in the case when water is poured into the pan. Containers are filled with a substrate (it is often called soil mixture or ground) - a mixture prepared from soil, peat, compost, humus, sand, taken in certain ratios.
But if it is possible to initially provide the seedlings with the necessary area of food, then there is no need to dive it.

For diving cabbage the best shoots

When you need to pick a seedling and do you need it at all?

Sowing a seedling has a number of advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of sprouting should be such:

  1. the area of plant nutrition expands,
  2. old soil gives way to fresh
  3. the problem of thick crops disappears,
  4. save crop area
  5. thanks to the pick, the weak and diseased crops are removed.

But, like other cultures, it is not necessary to dive the cabbage, because full heads can work without this procedure. Often, gardeners and gardeners grow cabbage not only without a dive procedure, but also without seedlings.

There are also a number of arguments in favor of the fact that it is not necessary to dive a cabbage at all:

  1. even the most harmless plant transplant can damage its roots, and you can restore them for too long, and picking at the same time delays the development of the plant,
  2. if the root is damaged, a lobe of the lateral roots develops and captures a large area of nutrition. The main root is reduced and does not allow the plant to receive moisture and fertilizing, as a result of which the plant should be watered as often as possible,
  3. to dive cabbage is too costly in financial and time terms, sometimes costs later are not justified at all. If you live in regions with a hot climate, then there is no need to dive in the plants at all, as well as to plant seedlings.

When you need to dive cabbage

If you want to get an early harvest of cabbage already in late June or early July, then you need to plant early cabbage varieties on seedlings as early as mid-March, and you should dive it around early April. Landing on the bed occurs at the same time in early May.

Before diving seedlings planted in boxes. For the soil used peat ground or a mixture of sod with humus. In the absence of components for such a mixture and suitable garden fertile soil. To prevent possible diseases, the soil can be further processed with lime.

Cabbage planting before transplanting

When the soil is ready, seeds for seedlings are planted through a centimeter, keeping the distance between the rows of seeds about 2 cm. Furrows need to be covered with a small layer of peat or humus soil.

When caring for seedlings, observe strict temperature conditions and monitor humidity, this is especially important at the very beginning. At the recommended temperature of 20 degrees, the seeds germinate in about 4 days. After sprouting, the temperature should be lowered and the plant should not be watered before you swoop down.

How is the picking done

With the appearance of the seedlings of the first true leaves, or about a week after planting, a pick can be made. For this we need small pots, it is best to use peat pots with sawdust.

A couple of days before using sawdust, add 10 grams of ammonium nitrate. You also need to prepare for fertilizing a plant when picking a mixture of such components as:

  1. ammonium nitrate - 10 gr,
  2. double granular superphosphate - 12 g,
  3. potassium nitrate (potassium sulphate) - 5 g,
  4. lime - 25 gr.

Note that components other than lime and superphosphate are added in a form that is dissolved in water. The resulting mixture must be mixed, moistened so that when you take it in hand, it is a dense lump that will not disintegrate.

In order to provide better nutrition for the plant, make cartridges with a diameter of a picking pot out of an iron sheet; cropped tin can.

Now fill the cartridge with the mixture so that the pot is not too loose and dense, because it can lose its shape and make the seedlings develop poorly. Above the pot line, squeeze it out of the cartridge. Then in the central part of the pot make a groove, where the root of the seedling will subsequently be moved.

Adding an article to a new collection

We tell in detail and show how to pick out cabbage seedlings and what to do with seedlings after picking.

Growing healthy cabbage seedlings is not so difficult if you strictly follow all the rules of care for seedlings. Perhaps the most difficult moment is to prevent the seedlings from pulling out. For this, it is important to provide it with a 12-15 hour light and correct temperature conditions.

Suppose you coped with it perfectly well, and the seedlings grew sturdy and "stocky." What's next? Of course, a picking! Fortunately, in this sense, cabbage is quite unpretentious. Sure, following our step-by-step master class, you can handle without problems.

Step 2. Preparing the soil

If you dive cabbage in separate containers, and not straight into the greenhouse, it is not recommended to use the land from the garden. The easiest way to buy ready-made universal soil for seedlings.

You can also cook the soil mix yourself. The optimal composition is turfy ground and sand mixed in equal proportions.

Personally prepared soil should be disinfected before use: shed with boiling water or 1% potassium permanganate solution.

Step 3. Fill the tanks

Cabbage seedlings can be swooped down into individual containers, as well as into larger boxes. In the second case, the landing pattern is 5 × 5 cm.

Before filling the pots with primer, they must be washed and it is desirable to disinfect with a solution of potassium permanganate.

Next, a layer of drainage (expanded clay or perlite) with a thickness of 2-3 cm is poured to the bottom of the tank in order to prevent water stagnation at the roots of the seedlings.

After that, you can fill the pots with soil mixture, leaving a recess for the seedling in the center.

Potted earth needs to be watered.

The simplest option is to transplant cabbage seedlings into the greenhouse. The best place for seedlings of this culture is near the doors along the aisle, in the coolest part of the greenhouse. Do not forget that when overheating the cabbage is pulled out!

Step 6. Transplant the seedling

Please note that you should not lift a seedling by the stem, so as not to break it. Hold it by the cotyledon leaves and carefully submerge it into the ground with a stick or fork.

If you transplant seedlings in a greenhouse, you can push seedlings into the ground with your index finger.

During the picking, the cabbage seedlings are buried almost to the level of the cotyledon leaves. If this is not done, the seedlings will quickly stretch and weaken.

Step 9. Transfer the seedlings to heat

In the next 2-3 days after the picking, the seedlings are transferred to a warm place with an air temperature of 22-25 ° C to allow the plants to "settle down" in new pots.

After this, the temperature regime comfortable for cabbage is again returned: 14-18 ° C on a sunny day, 12-16 ° C - overcast, 6-10 ° C - at night.

And, of course, do not forget that the cabbage is a culture demanding lighting. If the day is still short, it is advisable to illuminate the seedlings with a fluorescent lamp or phytolamp to extend it to 14-16 hours.

At this pick can be considered over! You need to follow the recommendations on caring for the seedlings, protect them from diseases and pests and wait for the planting dates in the ground.
