General information

Varieties of doves

Breeds of pigeons, there are a huge number, decorative and sports breeds, and to understand them is very difficult. Many breeders give preference to the very lively breeds of pigeons, whose birthplace is Turkey. These unique birds have very interesting features, and each breed of pigeons is unique in its own way. So what is the difference between common pigeons and ordinary pigeons?

Why did they get this name?

Pigeons can be divided into wild and domestic. Domestic ones, in turn, are subdivided into several groups: decorative, meat, postal, and flying or carving. It is to the flight subgroup and lively breeds of pigeons.

These pigeons got their name due to their unusual flight. Taking off, they almost vertically rise to a great height and make a sharp flip back, over their head, flapping their wings loudly. Some birds, before making a somersault, lay a wide circle in the sky. Such a flip, accompanied by a loud click, is called a “fight”. Only these pigeons are capable of performing such tricks, for which they received the name of fighting.

However, each lively breed of pigeons has its own distinctive features. They can have different colors and feather patterns, a different body structure and length of the beak. Reindeer rocks have earned popularity among pigeon breeders for their decorative appearance, unpretentiousness in care and maintenance, undemanding food, endurance and strength, and, of course, for their unique flying qualities.

General characteristics of these breeds

Bob pigeons have good health and longevity. How many pigeons live? Their average life expectancy is about 15-20 years, but with proper maintenance and good care, birds easily live to 35 years. Feeding the pigeons should be grated boiled potatoes, grains, seeds and fresh grass, which is replaced in the winter with hay. In winter, crushed carrots, yeast and fish oil are added to food. Regularly, the shell must be present in the shell and eggshell.

Training is an important condition for the rearing of live pigeons.

Great attention in the maintenance of live pigeons must be paid to daily training. It is recommended to start them from the age of two months. To do this, the birds are simply thrown out of the pigeon house and do not allow them to fall on the roof for 30-40 minutes. Such simple training exercises in birds develop stamina and a sense of terrain.

Interesting! Each breed has its own style of flight and combat. More appreciated battle style butterflies and fight with access to the pole. The latter looks especially beautiful.

Each breed has its fighting qualities in different ways. Some birds begin to demonstrate their skills at the age of 3 months, and others - only 2-3 years. The presence of very interesting feather ornaments on the head and a huge number of color options for plumage are characteristic of the battle pigeons.

Features of the flight of these pigeons

Each breed has its own individual style of flight. As a rule, pigeons fly up in circles, to a great height, after which they begin to flip their wings, while slowly rising up. The flight with the exit to the pole is most appreciated, in which the pigeon begins to flap its wings frequently, touch its legs and sharply rises vertically upwards, where it performs a roll through the back. The height of such a flight can reach 15 m or more.

Each breed of pigeons has its own, unique style of "battle".

Another unique flight style is called “years with a hang” or “butterfly”, in which the pigeon takes off very slowly, sometimes stopping and, for a while, hangs, dismissing its tail. Such a hang can last for a few seconds, and then a flip occurs with strong and loud clicks of the wings.

Some birds do somersault in the air without hovering or going to the pole in normal flight. Such a fight is not of great value. In flight, certain battle breeds can fly up with a corkscrew. For this they are called screw. However, they have one major drawback. During takeoff, pigeons often lose their orientation in space, crash into the roofs of houses, trees and die. To avoid this, experts recommend cutting feathers to birds, and also notice diseases and changes in the health of pigeons in time.

Overview of lively breeds of pigeons

Slaughter rocks are a large group of rocks. The most popular and widespread are: Baku, Iranian, Persian, Leninakan, Chile, Uzbek, Krasnodar, North Caucasian and Maykop. Of interest are the most famous battle breeds with photos and names, with a detailed description of their features.

Uzbek fighting

Uzbek pigeons have a very beautiful flight.

This is a whole subgroup of rocks with different characteristics and features of appearance. They can be chubaty and besomubimy, nosochubymi and dvukhkubymi. They are distinguished by extraordinary beauty and speed of flight, various colors of plumage.

These include such breeds:

Among them are found as white, cream and gray, and brown, black and multi-colored:

  • Chinns have a very beautiful dark red color, with white wings and a tail.
  • Aulaks have a larger build, and colors, mostly white, with multi-colored, variegated wings.
  • Gulbadam is a small pigeon, white with a red or yellowish spot on the neck.
  • Gulsary are interesting not only for its original flight, but also for its pure black color, with an absolutely white head.
  • Monochromatic marble color is characteristic for balkars, and hakky is black with a white tail.
  • Sochi has a basic white color of plumage, with variegated spots.

We should also mention the Andijan high-flying pigeons. They are valued for their excellent flight qualities and a clear vertical exit to the pole. This breed has more than 60 varieties of colors.

Chile has a variegated head in any color and outstanding flight performance.

Breed belongs to the big subgroup which received the name Baku fight. Their distinguishing feature is an unusually beautiful plumage, the color of which can be black or red, but, of course, with a motley head. The birds of this breed have a strong build, a rather massive croup and a slightly elongated head with a bushy forelock. Eyes are yellow with white eyelids, legs are not long, but well feathered.

Chile is highly appreciated by specialists for its unique flying qualities. They commit a fight in two ways: with a screw exit to the pole and with a hang. Each bird is different individual flight. Usually, this is a sharp vertical takeoff and strong, smooth flip-flops with clicks.

The Turkish group of breeds includes three of the most famous: takla, kalebek and haul. All these breeds differ in small size, various colors, forelock on the head and sparse plumage on the legs. They are characterized by an unusual flight duration, about 10 hours.

Turkish pigeons are real marathon runners among their kindred.

Takla is one of the most ancient battle breeds of pigeons. It was from her that many modern species of these birds originated. A characteristic feature of takla is the original flight. It flies up vertically, makes a large number of flips and clicks, and then drops sharply down by 2-3 meters and rises again to the same height. The main thing when growing tacla pigeons is to pay special attention to training.

Kalabekov often confused with the Kuban or Krasnodar pigeons. They are similar not only in appearance, but also in flight characteristics.

Pakistani pigeons have a bright color and an interesting pattern of feathers, with a colored back, tail, wings and head. Birds do not differ decorative, but very much appreciated for the unique flight qualities. An important feature of the breed is considered to be a very long tail and a diverse eye color, which can be red, orange, black or blue.

The owner of the Pakistani pigeons should teach pets to fight.

The flight of the Pakistanis is confident and durable, with a vertical, sharp exit to the pole and numerous flips and clicks. Birds are unpretentious, and the battle they manifest at different times, as at the age of 1.5-2 years, so in 3-4 months. Independently, pigeons do not learn to fight, so much attention should be paid to training.

This is a rather capricious and freedom-loving breed of pigeons, with a special character. Included in a large group of Caucasian warriors.

Attention! They are hard to get used to the cells and do not tolerate confined space.

Birds easily climb to great heights, gain speed and enter the pole. The duration of the continuous flight can reach 8 hours. Doves of this breed have medium sizes, a small white beak, a strong body, a streamlined, even, tightly compressed tail and a rounded head. It is worth noting that the battle is very loud and can be heard even at a great distance, up to 20 m.

Leninakan pigeons - unpretentious and hardy breed.

Leninakan pigeons have an interesting feature. They form pairs very early and stay in them until the end of life. However, letting the male and the female into the sky at the same time is not worth it. It will distract them and interfere with the flight. Birds are absolutely undemanding to care and feed.

Another large subgroup of battle breeds is Iranian. It includes Persians or Persian fighting pigeons, as well as Afghan and Iranian cheekbones. Externally, the Persians are more like hawks than pigeons. These are large, massive birds, with a wingspan of up to 70 cm. They have a slow but record-breaking flight (up to 11-12 hours).

The disadvantages include irregular and irregular clicks and a low exit to the pole. Color plumage the most diverse. It can be red-brown, black, yellow, blue, light gray, speckled and cream. A characteristic feature is a small round head and short beak. Feathers on legs very short or absent.

Persians are considered the largest of the lively breeds of pigeons.

This is one of the largest groups of breeds, which includes:

  • North Caucasian and Armavir kosmachi,
  • black-tailed, yellow-tailed and red-tailed pigeons,
  • Molokans,
  • marble,
  • Dagestan and Agasiev kosmachi.
Caucasian breeds of pigeons are different decorative appearance.

All Caucasian breeds have not only amazing flying qualities, but also differ in their decorative appearance:

  • Armavir kosmachs are white-tailed, white-headed, white-bearded and colored. They are hardy and picky in content.
  • North Caucasians may be white, red, yellow or gray in color, with a multi-colored tail.
  • Dagestan and agasievsky are distinguished by the presence of fluffy feathering on the legs.
  • The Molokans or the North Caucasian milky are pigeons of white color with a forelock on the back of the head and lush feathers on the legs.

These breeds are subdivided into two subspecies: the Krasnodar long-beak and middle-beak. Birds may differ in plumage color (red, white, marble or yellow) and beak length.

Krasnodar breeds of live pigeons are popular in the south of Russia.

The most popular breeds of this group are:

Pigeons are of medium size, strong build, small head with a high forehead and a flat head. The beak is white, thin, slightly curved, the chest is wide, the wings are very long, tight to the body.

In flight, a slow and smooth exit to the pole is characteristic, and then sharp flip-flops with a loud battle. They stay in the air for a short time, about an hour. In addition to the Krasnodar Territory, these breeds are widely distributed in the Rostov and Voronezh regions.

Short beaks and big eyes - these are the differences in the exterior of the Maikop breed.

Very beautiful and unusual breed, which is inherent decorative and excellent flight with a fight. The full name of the breed is Maikop short-billed pigeon. The birds are small in size, with long broad wings and a small neat head. Legs are shaggy, heavily feathered. Feathers are smooth and shiny, located tips back.

A distinctive feature of the breed - large, bulging eyes. Color can be both monophonic and two-color. Maikop pigeons are valued for harmonious, rapid flight and rhythmic, loud battle, with a sharp exit to the pole.

Features of the feathers

Bird-like ornithologists call the birds, which, after they are scared away from the roof of the pigeon house, that is, start chasing (hence the word “rut” in the name), soar into the air. The description of their summer is better not to read, it is necessary to see with my own eyes. Birds climb up and perform peculiar dances in the air. They do it at the beginning of the current - the mating season in birds. While flying, they make somersaults, as if playing with each other. For these virtuoso dances during the flight, the pigeons got the nickname “playing”. In a lively feathered flight is somewhat different. They are also able to do somersaults in the air. During takeoff, they rush vertically (going “up to a pole” up to 15 meters high), spreading their tails wide and hitting one wing with the other. At this time, they repeatedly tumble backwards, as if performing flips. Also, the battle pigeon tumbles not only during takeoff. He does this during the summer.

But the main feature of these pigeons is that they know how to beat their wings very loudly. Their claps can be heard within a radius of hundreds of meters. For the ability of "battle", that is, a loud sound from the wings hitting each other, such a pigeon was called a lively one. Birds can be high in the air for up to 5 hours or more. They make circles, and also periodically play, like to tumble, quickly and loudly clap their wings. Then the birds return to the ground. At the same time, going down, they open their wings and again make a vertical pillar. The flight of lively pigeons is admired by anyone who has ever seen him, and the birds themselves playing for such talent are highly valued by the world of avian experts and experienced golubovodami. There were cases when the birds were so addicted to the game, that when they left the dovecote, they immediately began to do somersaults and could not stop.

The main feature of these pigeons is that they can knock their wings very loudly.

On the origin and appearance of the battle pigeons

When did the tumbling dove appear? The ancestor of all domestic pigeons is a wild bird, called the gray dove. She, like her modern counterparts, was able to talk, doing demonstrative dances in the air in order to attract females. The domestication of wild birds happened a long time ago - about 6 thousand years ago. It is believed that pigeons first lived in Central Asia, North Africa (Egypt and Libya), in the Caucasus and the Crimea. And then spread across the globe. Since then, some breeds of birds disappeared, while others were artificially bred, such as, for example, the North Caucasus.

By the lively pigeons can be attributed to birds of different color and appearance. All of them are united in a common group only for the ability to fight or flapping their wings.

It is possible to carry birds to the lively pigeons, various in coloring and appearance.

Although pigeon breeders like to watch the games in the air of these birds, they show no less interest in the appearance of birds. Artificially bred breeds of battle pigeons are very attractive. These birds often have feathered legs, there are breeds with strong plumage, which is called kosma. There are beautiful pigeons with tufts and lumps on the heads. Such “hairstyles” make birds real beauties. Among the lively breeds, you can observe birds with different beak lengths. In some, it is long, there are both short-beaked birds and middle-beaked ones. The color of the feathers of the pigeon is varied: from white to variegated.

About pigeons of Iran and the North Caucasus

Many breeds of birds are named for their breeding. These are Krasnodar fighting pigeons, Persian, Caucasian and Tashkent. The most ancient birds are those bred in the territory of ancient Persia, modern Iran, therefore they are also called pigeons Persians. In the most ancient city of the planet, in Hamadan, one of the best centers of pigeon breeding is located. Breeders tried their best and brought dozens of worthy breeds of lively pigeons. The exterior of these birds is very beautiful. Cosmas on the legs, reaching a length of 15 cm, especially attract attention. A pigeon with such cosms is called a cosmach.

Many breeds of birds are named for their breeding.

Most Persian pigeons have sharp heads on their heads in the form of a forelock. Coloring is different, but more often there are color-tailed or color-sided birds.

The second center of Iran's golubevodnosti is considered the city of Tabriz. Here breeders brought their pigeon. Unlike the Hamadan kosmacha, the bird has a smooth, without a tuft, head and solid color of feathers. These amazing birds can be in the air for about 14 hours. Persian pigeons have the strongest battle of wings, frequent “flips” and a beautiful “pillar”. At the beginning of the 19th century, Persian pigeons appeared in the North Caucasus.

  1. Sizoryabye, or St. George, pigeons. The characteristic of their summer is an unusual kick with their feet during the exit to the pole and a strong fight with their wings. In the exterior, you can note a small beak, a bald little white head, white wings and thick cloaks. Bred birds in the city of Georgievsk.
  2. Black-arm North Caucasian pigeons. It was hard to get such beauties. But the result is impressive: a white bird with resin shoulders and wide legs on its feet. The pigeon has a very small beak.
  3. Marble Baku pigeons of the Caucasus. The color of birds is characterized by a variety of colors: red, black, gray, red, white flowers. Krasnodar pigeons in this are similar to them. After shedding, the feathers of Baku citizens gain even greater brightness and shimmer beautifully. In Russia, it is one of the most popular breeds.
  4. Yellowtail kosmachi fighting. These North Caucasian pigeons are a beautiful breed. They have a long tail the color of milk chocolate, they have very thick and long plumage on their legs, there is a high tuft on the head. 2 species of yellowtail birds were bred. Old-breed noses are the pigeons of Krasnodar, are more common in this region, and medium-sized lobates are popular in the Caucasus.

Doves of the Caucasus love for the exterior. The most beautiful birds are considered to be wide open toes, similar in shape to a plate. In flight, a pigeon with such a decoration looks like with the “second” wings. Some breeds of Caucasian pigeons have thick eyebrows.

In addition to the North Caucasian and Persian species of fighting birds, pigeon breeders are engaged in breeding Uzbek birds, but they are not yet so popular and numerous. In Tashkent pigeons, too, a variety of colors, there are rocks with two forelocks - above the beak and at the back of the head. Each pigeon breeder will admire their pets, care for them. And they will delight him with beauty and fascinating games in flight.

Characteristic of the summer

Why are such different breeds of pigeons, differing in external data, combined into one group? The reason for this is unusual flip-flops, otherwise - a game when a pigeon rises into the air and then turns over. Additionally, at this moment he publishes cotton with his wings, this is called a fight. The style of play of the dove is varied.

  • Sometimes the bird starts the game at a height, rising into the air in circles. Sometimes, making a few laps, hanging, beating loudly, slowly rising into the sky.
  • The pigeons of the battle rocks unusually come out into the pole, rising vertically, quickly flapping their wings, accompanying the process with loud claps. Having risen on several meters, make a prompt somersault back. This years most valued golubevodami. The ascent is accompanied by a series of coups, as a result, the length of the vertical pole, sometimes, reaches 15 m, and the fighter is sometimes completely hidden from view.
  • “Years with a hang” is characterized by slow flight, while at times the bird freezes, spreads its tail with a fan and hangs for a few seconds. Then he continues years with the battle and makes somersaults, but not as sharp as with a vertical takeoff. Such a lift also creates a sound background of flapping wings.
  • There is also a “tape game”, in this case the pigeon is tumbling, not hanging and without going “into the pillar”. The bird just flies, occasionally doing flips. In some species, this style is considered marriage.
  • There are some pigeons that are capable of spinning along a pole, spinning along an axis, as if screwing into the air. These types are called screw.

Pigeons of battle breeds are capable of flying long and high, usually 3-6 hours, sometimes their years are delayed for the whole day. Having played enough in the air, they can calmly descend, making circles, some of them fly down like a stone. Before landing, the wings are opened, making another pillar, lowered. If a pigeon can make such a combination, it is valued very highly.

Basically, fighting breeds prefer to fly separately, so the quality of the game is better manifested.

Connoisseurs believe that, going out into a pillar, high-quality clicks are distinguished by a clear periodicity of stages. Coups without claps or vice versa speak about the low quality of summer.

Individuals that do an insufficient revolution or commit more than 360 ° are rejected. From this, the flyer loses height, and the drawing of the game is already blurred.

Active years take a lot of strength and energy, the bird recovers strength, flying in circles. Gaining strength, again starts the game.

The flight of pigeons is an exciting and impressive sight, it is long and high, the birds are located at different heights, flying in circles, playing and frolicking.

It looks best years when pigeons fly in pairs (while nursing), or when preparing for laying.

The types of battle groups are diverse, and although not everyone can boast of beauty and grace on earth, they work wonders in the air. Some have tufts and chuby, feathers on their legs, sometimes they are very lush and long, which is why they got the name - kosma. The plumage is sometimes modest, sometimes beautiful and diverse, the combination of colors is very complex, the beaks and tails can also be completely different.

Centers golubevodstva

Where are the most famous breeder breeding centers concentrated? In what places do they pay special attention to valuable qualities, which lively breeds of pigeons are the best?

The country is the birthplace of pigeon breeding, so there is a high level of fighting pigeons, much attention is paid to the decorative direction. There for many pigeons - the meaning of life. All birds are extraordinarily beautiful, masterly master the skill of battle, so the poultry farmers of the whole world dream of having representatives of Turkish breeds.

The body of the Turkish pigeons neat, medium size. There are a lot of color options, but real connoisseurs do not like too colorful decorative beauties, as they have low flight qualities.

They stay in the air for up to 10 hours, but sometimes, too carried away by somersaults, they lose their orientation, fall and break.

Many Turkish species were included in the basis of Russian pedigree groups.

North Caucasus

Another place where pigeon breeding is developed. The Krasnodar Territory is famous for its pigeons and selection work. There they were engaged in breeding new breeds distributed in our country. For example, Armavir is known for white-headed kosmachy, in addition to high flight qualities, it is also a majestic beauty.

The difference lies not only in the suit, there is a difference in the length of the beak, the diversity of the tufts on the head and the degree of feathering of the legs. The ancestors of most of the rocks were brought from Persia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey.

Central Asia belongs to the primacy of breeding and selection of pigeons, based on the Uzbek breed. The colors and decorations of birds are amazing. In Asia, short beaks have always been valued, representatives of Tashkent warriors became the starting point for the creation of Uzbek species, there is their blood in the pigeons of Armavir. Turkmenistan is famous for its handsome asanas and agarans.

In Azerbaijan, preference was always given to the fighting abilities of a bird, and little was paid to beauty. Baku pigeons are widespread in this region and do not have too long brushes on their legs.

In the West, they like war pigeons, but lovers do not lead their new breeds. All birds capable of doing somersaults in the air are called scooters or turmans. Preference is given to pigeons from Turkey and Asia, and breed names are given by place of origin.

The best breeds

The breeds of lively pigeons are diverse and all deserve attention, but there are virtuosos, which it is simply impossible not to mention.

Among the variety of pigeons in Turkey, the Takla breed stands out. Friendly, intelligent, tidy birds are bred by nomads of Asia.

A vertical pole, a cascade of flip-flops and loud pops, falling down to a three-meter “platform”, again coups and climbs - a solo style, this is a distinctive feature of the breed. Takla is the leader in this type of flight, it is laid at the genetic level, it is fixed by intensive training and careful selection of the most capable individuals. Coloring birds are varied, but the external feature - the brushes on the legs and white back.

Baku flight

They belong to the most common group among pigeon breeders. Unpretentiousness, excellent adaptability, long and high years - all these are the advantages of the breed.

Bakunians are distinguished by a variety of colors and appearance:

  • there are pure white and black varieties,
  • marble,
  • black-tailed - with black and red tails,
  • neck - with a spot on the neck,
  • colorful doves chili
  • maneshes with tufts on the head.

The breed is medium in size, the wings are closed on the tail, there are individuals with bare legs, most representatives have small (up to 3 cm) brushes.

A distinctive feature of Baku residents is the ability to play for a long time and qualitatively, these properties have evolved over the life of several generations of passionate breed lovers.

North Caucasus Kosmach

The roots of the species come from Persia, so pigeons are often called Persians.

  • The bird is large, with a proud posture and a convex chest, very beautiful.
  • Usually the color is solid, but the color is completely different: there are gray, white, yellow, even red variations. Now inside the breed, new varieties have appeared, variegated or with colored tails.
  • At the feet of the pigeons kosma, reach 12 - 15 cm.
  • If the forelock is, then it is thick and wide.

Cosmachis rise to the pole slowly, making up to 10 sharp flip-flops. They move their legs during takeoff and landing, for this feature they are called fuckers.

Iranian pigeons

Birds belong to the most ancient breed, they are mentioned in ancient chronicles. For many years, breeders have been engaged in improving its natural qualities. According to statistics from 2014, only 5% of the population contain these pigeons, since they are considered sacred and not all are privy to the secret of their rearing and rearing.

Their appearance has no special distinguishing features:

  • The suits are so varied that it is difficult to select a specific one, but mostly black, almond, red and gray colors,
  • plumage on the legs varied, from bells to long fans, there are also bare-footed,
  • there are individuals with a smooth head, there are also cubes.

Pigeons fly slowly and calmly, they definitely come out in a pole, hover for a few minutes in the air and make flips. The fight is moderate, and the roll is stretched for a few seconds, the bird can be heard well, even if it disappeared from view.

Persians are also called Tehranis. Breeders claim that their bird looks like a predatory hawk, its head is rounded, and its beak is very short, therefore they are also called marsh.

Agaran Turkmen

The breed was bred on the basis of the Iranian group of pigeons, it does not fly for long, but the spectacle is so impressive that it is enough to admire the advantages of battle.

"Cream of camel's milk" - this is translated "agar" from Turkmen. The bird is very beautiful in flight and at rest.

  • Beige, light brown, golden color - options for coloring the head and chest of a pigeon. Sometimes tones extend to wings and tail.
  • This bird is powerful, large, short beak.
  • On the feet of a long fan edge.
  • The tuft of agarana does not happen.

A pigeon is appreciated for its ability to hang vertically and rotate around itself.

Unfortunately, the bird is not widespread in the Russian territory, but those who have it in their collection can be proud of this advantage.
